Disappointing Day

I have been looking for a Ruger LCR .357 for a while now without success. About a week ago a forum member pointed me to Bud’s Gun Shop as they had a used one that sounded like a good deal. It was listed as being in excellent condition and 90-100%. I contacted customer service, and asked if there was any damage to the gun. They let me know that if there was any damage it would be listed. Before I placed my order I double-checked the description and there was nothing mentioned about damage. The gun was delivered to my FFL today and when I went to pick it up I discovered that there was a decent amount of damage to the gun. It actually looks like it may have been dropped/slid across a hard surface. There is a gouge in the trigger guard, a chip in the polymer on the edge/corner in front of the trigger guard, the polymer by the end of the barrel and the barrel end itself are chewed up, and the cylinder is marked up. This was all damage that I spotted without doing a thorough inspection. I left the gun at my FFL and did not fill out any of the transfer paperwork. On my FFL’s advice I tried to call Bud’s, but they were already closed for the day. I sent them a return request so I am hoping that the story will end well. I was REALLY looking forward to getting this gun, so to say that I am disappointed is an understatement.

Seems you handled it as well as possible. Wow, I will be real careful about buying anything used on-line.

My local gun store got a LCR 357 in last week and I pounced on it. I love the looks it and the feel of the trigger. Good shooter too for a short barrel snubbie -- I am keeping them within 2 and 1/4 inches at 7 yards -- just stand and fire.

Good luck.

I've bought a lot of guns through Buds and I'll be surprised if they don't make good on it. Nothing but great service from them every time.

I actually got an email from Bud’s this morning saying that they were going to contact my FFL and issue a call tag to get the gun back. Once they receive the gun they will issue a full refund to me, so it sounds like we are headed in the right direction. I was more disappointed than anything else. I was looking forward to having the gun, but now I will have to wait until my LGS gets one in stock. From the reports that Ruger isn’t taking any new orders for a while, it could be a long wait.

FWIW, their are quite a few on GunBroker (last time I checked), both used and new. Just takes some time to shop around for the best price.
