Now, don't get me wrong, I love my Speed Sixes, but the best looking snubbie in my opinion is a Colt Detective Special. I have been looking for a nice example for awhile. I found this one today at one of my gun shop haunts. Very nice and a great price at $400. :D

Beautiful little Colt, and KILLER price! I haven't seen ANY kind of Colt D-frame priced under $500 for at least three or four years, much less one as clean as that one.

Congrats, you did good!

That's a beauty. No excuses needed for Colts imo.

I have an Officers Model target .22 that has just about reached me.

I wanted a Detectives Special since I was a wee little fella. Pretty happy with my Charter, although not as pretty.

That is a nice one. Congratulations.

Very nice shrouded barrel lug on that one, reminds me of one I owned
in the early 1970s that I sorely wish I still had, very clean, congratulations.

I have a confession to make, it was actually $400+$32 tax..... :)

What a beauty! Those grips are outstanding too. I remember your saying you were looking for one like it. I want one with the exposed ejector rod. Prices out of sight when I've found a good one. You stole that one for $400.

Colt's, gotta love 'em  They sure aren't getting any cheaper...

Yes, I have been looking....and biding my time for just the right gun at just the right price :D ..........now for a K22........ 8)

Heliman,

I have one of those, but mine has a jewelled hammer. I don't know if it came out of Colt like that.

K22 ??? :? :? A Diamondback .22 would go better with it.

Hey Snake, I think we both know what I would have to pay for a Diamonback 22... :D , so I want a shooter grade or better K22 with a 6" barrel. I had one a long time ago and it was very accurate. I find myself turning more toward 22's to be more productive at my range sessions. I'm afraid if I found a nice Diamonback, I would be reluctant to shoot it! I need a good shooter.... :D

I'm not the least bit reluctant to shoot these. Been putting about 600 rounds per year through each of them lately.

Yup, very nice .22 Diamondback's are going for $1200 + at the GA gunshows, equal K22's about $800. I'll check at tomorrow's show. Both are sooo fine! Scarey prices though, at least at GA shows.

Heliman, you may be reluctant to shoot a minty .22 Diamondback if you bought one. I can help you with that!

Back in '98 I got a choice pinned barrel M48 8 3/8th for $389. I wish I'd have also bought a K22 around then.

Time machine!! That's it! I'll get to working on it. Shouldn't take me too long. I'll take a few of you along with me. Just don't let a fly in on the trip

Very Nice Detective Special! And a Killer price also. I wish I had never sold mine.

Beauty, Heliman. (Couldn't resist loading up the image a second time.) Almost exactly like mine. Didn't pay quite as much as you, but I wouldn't try to upstage. Tiniest minute bit of delicate holster character about the lead edge of the muzzle. Fine gumshoe gun.

How did you get the high gloss on that stock?? Or is that just your excellent photography? Mine is more satiny. Hm...

Now I want one like Flatheadsal's! Be pure perfection if I could find one what had some real history with leather that I wouldn't mind toting.

I do enjoy the Colt's.

Here's my wishgun:
(Just haven't found it yet.)

About 20 years ago Numrich was selling off some overstock Colt barrels. I bought a 3" (yes, 3", not 2") one for a new-model Dick Special that I hoped to own some day. I'm still looking for one. :(

IMHO, a 3" Colt DS would be THE ULTIMATE carry revolver. The modern equivalent of the late great Chick Gaylord's "Metropolitan Special" of the early '60s, but even better.

Don't PM me, the barrel's not for sale. I'm still looking....

Nice gun! I had a unfired in the box Detective Spl. for about 2 hours once... then it migrated to my wifes side of the safe. She said I wouldn't resist the temptation to shoot it... so I picked up a used Agent to replace it. There's something special about old Colts.

Maybe I just need to polish it up... I confess I've done nothing with the gun aside from basic cleaning after firing it a few times.

I love 3" barrels! Still short enough to stick in a pocket but a little more sight plane. My 3" heavy barrel model 36 is a long-time favorite that led to my 3" .357 SP101 & my 3" .22 M317... Now if Ruger would bring back the .22 SP101 w/ a 3" barrel life would be sweet! Or how about a 3" Bearcat? Sorry, I didn't mean to hijack the thread.

As a fan of the old film noir movies of the late 40's & early 50's, it's hard not to like Colt Detectives (or Cobras for that matter).

Really nice piece you have there.
