I've only passed through there at times, beautiful countryside. Should be some horse farms there open for tours. The Interstate drive from Lexington to Knoxville, Tennessee passes through some of the most beautiful scenery in the eastern United States.

The pioneer settlements at Boonesboro & Harrodsburg are neat if you're into the regions early history. I personally like the museum at Fort Harrod. The Blue Licks Battlefield State Park is the site of the last battle of the Revolution with a nice museum, but about 40 miles north. Daniel Boone's last Ky. residence is not far from there.
The Henry Clay museum, The Mary Todd Lincoln house.
Buds is a big place with a lot, a whole lot, of mostly modern or new guns. Two shooting ranges.
Classic Arms & Archery has a nice selection with some really nice older Smiths, Colts, Winchesters & the like available.
Evans Firearms has a large inventory.
Antique & Modern is/was the high end gun shop in town, but scaling back their hours. Check for schedule.
I mention the last 3 because they are very close in proximity to one another as far as small cities go.

Then there's the Ky. Horse Park and/or The Blue Grass Country driving tour for the ponies or just some pretty countryside. The pristinely manicured horse farms are a pretty sight.

I can't think of anything that really pops, but have been here for 63 years & maybe taking some of it for granted, Let me know if you'd like specific info on something.

On the way to Harrodsburg from Lexington is Shaker Village at Pleasant Hill on Hwy 68. Tours of late 19th century living and a nice restaurant. They used to have a small paddle-wheel boat to ride up the KY river and view the palasades (high cliffs, really). Neat place to see. About ten miles south is Northpoint Penitentiary. My father worked there as a guard. I do not recommend a visit there. It was a POW camp in WWII and the crematorium was still there in 1990's.

Malone's is a good place to get a steak in Lexington. If you go to Harrodsburg, the Beaumont In is an excellent place to eat.

Enjoy your visit to the Bluegrass region. I miss my old stomping grounds.

Visited KY for the first time a couple weeks ago. Lots to see and do. Main things we did were visit the wife's ggetc grandfather's house he was one of KYs pioneers and started many horse racing traditions that continue today. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Whitley When I was tracing her family and found him my first thought was I'd uncovered a Revolutionary War loyalist. Born in VA and died in Canada - boy was I wrong this guy was a true American hero and still fighting for his country in the War of 1812. Also hit the Vette museum - which was a disappointment. Not enough oddball factory cars and too many owner loaned customs you can see on any street corner. Also what's the deal with the Corvette Hall of Fame Ceremony in 2017: Peter Brock in the category of Enthusiast - Should be GM-Chevrolet employee. He was a young GM designer and his original (1959 I think) sketch became the iconic 63 Vette. He also designed the Cobra Daytona Coupe which is the only American car to win the World Manufacturers title.

I am not sure if anyone mentioned Keeneland. If you like thorough bred horses Keeneland is a must. Beautiful and the tour is very interesting. Racing occurs in April and October but buying and selling horses goes on through out the year.
