I spotted this one today while I was checking the hummingbird feeders to keep the ants off of it. He avoided me completely, the leaf its on has some of the sugar water from the feeder and he was content to let me take pictures.

 
Isn't it amazing that a human a million times the weight of this insect, can be so intimidated by it. Says something about our place in the universe, I think. :wink:
 
Up close they are beautiful, but I been stung many times be those little bastages and it hurts for days !!!!!

And, to top it off, unlike a bee, they sting you over and over again.

Yup, hate'em. I have re-occuring nightmares of bees. Wish I hadn't clicked on the thread now. I tell people I'd rather have a bear in my tent than a bee. Went a few rounds with one in the mini-van yesterday. Won by TKO..
 
The Taliban aint the only bad things in Afghanistan! Never got stung by one but I saw them get after an ANP, that's a 5.56.
