Hi,
Very interesting!
We've long known some people on my maternal grandfather's side of the family came from KY. It was only in the last year or so an old family history book from the late 1800s/early 1900s on that branch was located and dusted off. In it, we learned my great-great grandfather had gone to KY w/ Dan'l Boone on what the book called Boone's "last expedition" taking settlers from VA out there--possibly that 1795 date on the plaque?
His first wife was killed in an Indian attack, their son captured and raised by the Indians, and he, himself, was captured and "sold" as a hostage, supposedly to the Canadians (????) Later he was freed and returned to KY, found his son, remarried and started a second family.
I wonder how close to this cabin all these events may have happened?
