Thanks for looking but I don't think the New Model Bisley and old model cylinders are interchangeable. So if there is anyone out there with a 45 long colt for an old model ruger that they do not want or need please let me know.

I had to do a little file dressing on mine but a new model .45 Colt cylinder fit my OM .45 convertible.

I am told the new model is almost flat in the center where as the old model is supposed to be raised where the pin slides thru the cylinder, So I am not sure about the file work on the cylinder needed to fit a new model cylinder to an old model frame. And if not filing on the cylinder then I don't think the other cylinder would fit the frame. On my 22 , 357, 44, and the 45 all three screws and all have the flat frame and raised hub center section so I am a bit confused on what to file.

I sold my spare OM 45 Colt cylinder but I have an extra 44 SBH cylinder (unfluted)

It can be rechambered to a tight spec 45 Colt by any gunsmith who has the proper reamer. Of the big names, JRH appears to have a pretty quick turn-around, based on other folks recent posts.




The cylinder - overall length +/- 1.951"

Do you have a cyl that fits your gun?

If you can provide all the following dimensions of yours, I'll measure mine.

Overall length
Just cyl body length
Front face of cyl to back of ratchets
Rear face of cyl to front of gas ring

I just took a couple of thou off the the face where the pin goes through. It was a little taller than the old model. Pretty easy. Maybe I just got lucky though. I bought a new model 45C cylinder off of ebay. It times perfectly in my 3 screw.

Thanks to all who replied. My education continues so here is the answers I got from Ruger. First they will not do anything until the gun is converted. Second they only use parts from the line I guess they have no old stock of spares. The teck called me and told me that the three new cylinders that he tried would not fit because of the ratchet being a large variety and the frame was broached for it alone. Then he told me only the factory could fit a new cylinder but not on this gun. I asked why they could not fit a new cylinder as they are the factory and was told that they would not do it but I could sell the gun to them at a reduced amount from the original selling price. I asked for the gun back with all the old parts. They sent the gun and the trigger was screwed up along with missing screws. I found an old model cylinder on ebay and handed the gun, parts, and cylinder to be fitted to a local gunsmith. The factory guy told me it would cost thousands to find the right cylinder. I got the gun back the other day and it works great. The Ruger factory has lost a lot of points with me. Hope this helps someone out there - don't give up.
