Cowboy Action New Vaqueros that function like Colt SAAa

The guns above were customized by Jimmy Spurs of Cowboy Gunworks. They are .357 New Vaqueros. They are set up to work for my style of shooting which is two handed. Gun in right hand cocking the hammer with the left hand. You can see that they have Blackhawk or Vaquero hammers on them. These work best for big hands. They also have their transfer bars removed and work just like OM Blackhawks. You will notice the modified hammers. I left one on the half cock notch and one at full cock.

I put on the grips from my 50th Anniversary Blackhawks because I like the checkering better. I also added the bullseye ejector rods for a bit of bling and I think they work better than the factory cresant head rods.

I have some custom Belt Mountain base pins on order and they should be here soon. I hope. The last thing that I will do to these is make or buy some custome grips but I am not in a big hurry to get them.

Nice pistolies ya got there. Probably will get your times down in the mid teens :wink: Ya might try Eagle Gunfighter grips. I really like them. Have them on 6 guns now.
Shot with your Pards a couple months ago. Will shoot with them this Sunday most likely.

I shoot with the allias of Ketchum Quick.

I like the Eagle Gunfighters a lot and may just go to them or something like them. We will see. I have to do something because I can't get a consistant grip wiht the factory grips.

Sounds like you have been having some great fun WJ. I only made 3 big shoots last season, Wolverine Rangers Range War, Guns of August and Gunsmoke '10. I was happy to make those. I couldn't imagine making it two 10 big shoots! Must be nice!

Anyway, I thought I would post the picture above to let people know that if they like he feel of the OM Blackhawks, there is a way to get their current models to act like the old ones. I have to admit that I didn't see a big advantage to the old style lockwork until I tried a pair of these tuned by Jimmy. They are extreamly smooth (as good as or better than a Colt) and they are still Ruger tough.

The downside of them, just like a Colt, and OM Ruger you can't safely load them with six. It that is not an issue and if you like the feel of the originals then there is a way to get your guns reverse engineered. I believe that Jimmy sets the guns up without transfer bars pretty cheap for the amount of work that he has to do.

Again, just thought you guys would like to know that it could be done.

Were the NM triggers that crappy? I have 3 and I thought they were nice untill I got a 3 screw.One of them was converted and it got deconverted pretty quick. So how does the hammer work? One click at full cock?

What do you want to know? Jimmy has the hammers and triggers welded up and then he machines them so they work like the original Rugers and or the Colt SAAs. He has been selling these like hot cakes all across the country and they are the hottest guns available for Cowboy Action Shooting matches.

Interestingly he is into swiss watches. He makes the insides of all the guns he works on like the swiss watches he wears. He jewels the interior parts. You should see the insides of the Winchester '73 he did for my wife.
