Considering a LC9??

Well I'm all over the place on brands here, so bare with me.

Have a glock 26 9mm which is a great gun. A true holster gun. Slightly heavy for hot summer carry, so I have a SW 642 with a 2.5 inch barrel. Light frame, but only 5 rounds. I do like the ammo choices.
Always stayed away from the .380 craze. Not much of a round, I thought, compared to the 38 choices.
Well I did pick up a SW bodyguard 380 and liked it. Fit my hand, shot perfect with about 150 rounds. The laser is a none starter for me. Thought the buffalo bore loadings were good. Well, I seem to be grabbing it more and more. Just handy I guess. Just pocket carry.
BUT I'm still leery on the .380 . Lazy I suppose.
Anyway, picked up a LC9 and was interested as a .380 replacement. Only slightly larger/heavier. Still a pocket gun and in 9mm.

Haven't seen any recalls, and complaints seem few.
Dump the SW, which is the best of the bunch i feel, for the LC9???

I've had an LC9-LM on order through my LGS via Zanders since November. They're still out. I think it will be worth the wait. I also have a S&W 642 and a S&W BG38 which I switch off for carry. I'd favor any .38 Spl over any .380 and probably the 9mm over the .38 but I wouldn't feel under gunned and probably keep 'em all, except, perhaps, the .380, but the PPK was good enough for James Bond.

Both shops I was in had one. $359.00 No laser.

The 380 is so small, there is no reason not to have it.
I'm afraid that if I swap, the LC9 will be a holster only gun, then of course, bigger is better.

The LC9 is easily pocketable and $329 is a going price. I carry one everyday, no laser. From what I see, the LC9 with laser will go in a cargo pocet too.

I carried a Tarus titanium 38 special for years in a front pocket holster. Just recently bought the LC9 with Lasermax and it is now my EDC. Over 500 rounds down range without any malfunctions. Carrying it in a pocket holster from theholsterstore.net. Using Speer Gold Dot 124 gr JHP.

When it get's too warm to carry my Sr40c i carry the LC9, it is light, accurate and totally reliable. The LC9 is better than the LCP in every way and almost as easy to CC, for the price and quality it is a perfect choice.

I love the light weight and reliability of my LC9. No jams or FTE and it fits in just about any pocket, including sweats as long as you tighten the waistband!

I have one as well, about 800 rds through it never a single problem. Only thing I've run across complaint wise was the trigger, which personally I like, and the front sights coming loose. Mine came loose 2 days ago, and Ruger shipped out a new slide this morning for it. Very impressed with the customer service. In fact, they emailed me and made a follow up phone call.

That sounds like pretty good customer service!

As to the trigger, I've heard the complaints but I personally like the long DA trigger too. I'm used to it from shooting revolvers. I consider that long trigger pull another safety feature of this gun. I like it because it forces me to squeeze instead of jerking that trigger.

Don't be surprised if the safety is VERY tight on it till you break it in as well as the slide lock. In fact most people have to rack the slide. Mines starting to loosen up though

I suppose we all have an opinion so here's mine... I've done the pocket carry for several years. s&w 38, ppk/s, g 26. after I handled the lc9, I was sold. been carrying it for almost a year. couple of hundred rounds. no troubles. I looked at the kel tec 32, 380, 9mm, kahr 9mm, tarus slim, even the rohrbaugh. lc9 came home with me... is it perfect?? not at all. is it sufficient for my needs? absolutely!! couldn't be more satisfied.

Are the LC9s really that hard to find? LGS has had them for quite awhile at approx $425 with LM. I stumbled into a rural mom and pop "everything store" about an hour from home this past weekend while camping and picked one up with LM for $389. Couldn't pass it up at that price. Ran a few rounds through a friends awhile back, but haven't had the chance to run this one yet. I'm anxious to see how I fare with it based on the often mixed opinions I read. The trigger didn't bother me when I shot one before, although it was a brief session.

I just bought a LC9 W/CT.

I was carrying a S&W M&P40c, I carry OWB with a high rise holster.

With my bad back it was getting to heavy so I bought the LC9.

I bought a OWB holster to get by with, but I just found a nice OWB thumb break holster that I should have shortly. I like thumb break holsters and it wasn't easy finding one for a lefty and with a thumb break to fit the LC9 W/CT.

I also bought a Nemisis pocket holster for it that works great also.

The 9mm is a great carry gun. However, with the excellent ammo for defense available today, I completely trust a .380. I at times carry a Bersa Thunder .380 IWB loaded with Corbon Pwrball or Hornady Critical Defense ammo.

LGS just advertised them for $309.00. I've had mine for a while. Got it for $342.00 otd. So $309.00 + Tax is a little better, of course if you don't have a ccw and need a bg check it'd be a wash.

So I take it that even with a long trigger pull the LC9 is a good carry gun?
So for a small gun how is it recoil wise?
Will the LC9 possibly take the favorite spot of the LCP?

cluznar... I'll attempt to say something and hope it can make some sense??? the lc9 trigger pull is really close to the smith & wesson j frame da pull. I have had one of those for close to forty years. recoil is subjective but I do not find it difficult. practice is what brings this into perspective (been shooting close to fifty years). it's not that much recoil. it's small enough to go with me and not be intrusive, uncomfortable or aggravating. I carried a glock 26 in the pocket. that was, for lack of a better word, tiresome. great gun, shoots well, points well, 11 rounds, great BUT bothered me in pocket carry. great for iwb or belt. the lc9 does what "I" need where/how “I” carry. they say "your mileage may vary" because everybody don't like what I do... BUT the lc9 is really a great little gun. I hope you find yours. good luck.

If you can possibly get the chance, rent or borrow one before you buy. I rented one and had been looking forward to the experience. NOT! As I have posted before, my trigger finger gets jammed in the guard, just where the sear lets off. Look at a picture of one and you'll see why. There is a definite reduction in trigger guard opening as it terminates near the grip. What a bummer for me. But maybe you'll be lucky and have slimmer fingers.

Well I had nothing but bad luck with my brand new LC9 today.

I bought it about a week ago, today was the 1st chance to get to the range with it.

I fire the 1st round and it fails to eject the spent round, I rack the next round in and it fails to fire. This went on and on and on, it either would fail to seat the round, or it would fail to fire the round, or it would fire it and the case would get stuck on the barrel and not eject from the gun. It was almost like it was trying to refeed the shot round instead of ejecting it.
The other thing it was doing was failing to lock the slide back after the last round was fired.

I fired 100 rounds, out of those 100 rounds only 3 times did it fire the round, eject it and load the next round and allow that round to fire.

I hope I can return this paperweight to where I bought it, I think they are going to tell me to send it back to Ruger, but I hope not.

Even if I send it back to Ruger and it comes back I'm going to get rid of it.

I need a daily carry gun I can count on, this one won't even fire one round........

The trouble I'm in is I bought extra mags, holsters (yes holsterS), XS Sights, ext. for this gun. I think I can send this stuff back and exchange it for my new gun, yup I'm going to buy a S&W SHIELD.

The reason I bought the LC9 is this:

1. I liked the grip better
2. I liked how the Crimson Trace Mounted better
3. (This is the biggest reason) I can't buy the SHIELD in MASS yet.
4. I would need to do a trigger job on the SHIELD as we are getting the horable MASS 10Lb Trigger and I didn't need to do that to the LC9.

All those reasons why I liked the LC9 are nothing now because the thing is a piece of junk. If it doesn't go bang, it's no good to me..............

This really sucks as I didn't want to buy the SHIELD because I would need to do a 3rd trigger job ( I own a M&P 40 FS and a M&P 40 Compact) but I guess I have to know, AARRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG............

David, sorry to hear your LC9 experience was so poor. It's unfortunate that every one of these can't leave the assembly line in perfect tune. Just shouldn't be that way. I fired mine last weekend for the first time and it was flawless. I had a few reservations about the gun after all the chatter on here, but I'm very pleased so far. The huge increase in production should allow for an increase in QC personnel, but apparently that hasn't occurred yet. I'd certainly think it would be cheaper to get these guns right the first time as opposed to servicing so many after the fact.

My LC9 has operated flawlessly after 800 rounds. If I had read some these negative experienes with it I might not have purchased mine.
Well Im glad I didnt read them before because I love mine but shouldnt Ruger be happy to fix lemons?

Did you do a good cleaning of your LC9 after you bought it "Before" going to the range for the first time? Ruger packs alot of grease in there and it can cause the things you mentioned in your post.
