So this is the Columbus Day weekend. Reminds me of a story from several years back.

My wife and I were staying at the Big Bend Motor Lodge in Study Butte, Texas. The Columbus Day weekend was coming up. I was depending on cashing traveler's checks for spending money cash. Realizing the banks might be closed, I asked the clerk at our motel if the banks were to be open the following Monday.

"Banks? What do you need a bank fer? We ain't got no banks," respponded the clerk.

"Thought I might need to cash a traveller's check," I told the man.

"Oh, well, we use the restaurant for that." the clerk told me.

Nearest bank was ninety miles away. One resident told me it used to take him a week to do his banking, two days ride to, I believe, Alpine, one day for banking, two days ride back.

Last time I was in Study Butte, they had an ATM there.

Hey Bob, I did not know that Study Butte had been 'electrified'. The only time I was there, I only saw one lonely buzzard. Its in the middle of no where.

Thanks

Mike

Just looked at that location and wow! When you are there you ARE 40 miles from nowhere. Doesn't look like anything is paved except the main road. The RV park at least is laid out well.
