Coldest temp while hunting with your Ruger?

I'm curious how many go out hunting with their Ruger in extreme cold conditions? I've hunted in -50 below Celsius in the past but choose not to go out in that anymore as I got a bit older. I do not mind heading outland in -30 weather to hunt caribou with my Ruger rifle. It's lightweight, stainless & accurate enough that it doesn't get tiring carrying strapped on your back while driving snowmobile for long periods of time. Cheers fellow Ruger lovers,

I've hunted pheasants at -25F with my dog. I don't recall the shotgun I used, but it wasn't a Ruger. Probably a Beretta or Benelli.

Now, I live in the deep south...so we never have those extremely colds days that others do. But, I hunted with a Redhawk one Sat morning in Jan of 1997 when the temp was 16 degrees...which made it pretty cool, for around here.

Now I know why I live in California. Probably down in the low thirties or high twenties. Anytime you get into a minus number it's time to go inside and stay there until spring. :lol:

Mid-November, deer season in northern Minnesota with a tang-safety M77 .30-06: -15 F (about -25 C). Mid-January checking the trap line with an RST6: -40 (F or C... same thing).

I was in Barrow, Alaska. Went to the gravel pit, and killed 12 soda cans a couple of times with my Ruger RedHawk 4.2 inch barreled 44 mag. At -15 degrees F :)

Minus 5 in a frozen tree stand protected from the wind by two layers of burlap... I abandoned the stand after 6-7 hours and watching a huge oak explode and drop a ton or so of upper branch from >30 feet up. My Ruger was the SRH 480R with a Leupold 2x in a large UM shoulder holster. Any good 44RM could have met the challenge but there was a heavy bruiser in the area, munching beans and corn and acorns and in bad weather I want to make the biggest holes I could without carrying a long gun. A stainless Bearcat rode under my outer shell also, just for general principles.

My cold-weather gauge is usually my best pair of 1000-gram Rocky Cornstalkers. When my toes start to feel the cold in those honeys, its time to pack it in.

Had ignition issues yrs ago with a Single-Six in -13 degree weather. Was using magnum cylinder and German ammo. Think it was lube too cold, retarding firing pin operation. Kinda what got me to looking at synthetic lubes of the automotive type. No problems since.

Went looking for bunnies at 32 deg F with the MkII. Dunno how some of you guys define "cold" temps, but for a self-admitted solar powered SoCal kid, that's FREEZING! ;)
