Cabelas Employee Pricing Sale

Not sure where this goes but might be of some interest to a few folks. There is a Cabelas Employee Pricing Sales May 13-16. I'm not sure how much of a discount that is. I would think it would very depending on the item. Let us know what you got.

I have never worked for Cabela's. I only helped fund Mr. Cabela's Rolls Royce convertible. I enjoyed buying used guns from Cabela's but their corporate policy of being the slowest business on the planet brought my buying to a stop. However, their delaying did leave me observing quite a few customer/clerk negotiations and I bought a couple guns at "employee price." My experience has been that when offered as an advertising promotion on used guns their employee pricing amounts to the sum of a customer's negotiating talent and the need of an individual sales clerk to improve their sales numbers. Within the same hour I have watched different clerks tell customers that the discount on the same item was 5% and 15%.

Hopefully, Mrs. @%#&* will not get elected, the line of customers will thin out and I will go back to browsing Cabela's used guns. No other gun store in my area has as much variety pass through their used gun inventory.

So the sale is such that eveyrone gets employee pricing those days? I would think employees get the price anytime.....

Unless the "pre-sale" employee pricing is disclosed, only a fool would accept the marketing blather.

Now give me Ruger employee pricing on Ruger firearms, and I'm in. (and on the way to the bank).

The same as in most all gun stores the used guns that customers spot as deals do not hang around and the over priced ones accumulate. Eventually it becomes time to find homes for some of them as well. That's when the coupons for $xx dollars off any $xxx purchase or employee price for every one are sent out, or the special prices for Cabelas Club members events occur. That is not to say that you will not find a great deal on something special to you but mohavesam makes a good point. You shouldn't assume stuff on sale is your best option.

I have shopped in the past at Cabelas during their "employee pricing" sale, and for everything I bought, the discount was 10%.

Guns may have a different mark down.

I wondering about ammunition but I'm betting 5% on that. They are already high on ammo IMO, so I just ordered 1000 rounds of 9mm 124 grain Gold dots. But who knows what I'll find.

IDK about that - although, when I called my friendly FFL to alert him to the eminent arrival of a rifle I had just bought @ the CT Cabela's, he too mentioned that Cabela's was a PITA to deal with.

IME, however, it took less than 10mins for me to select the rifle I wanted & complete the transaction paperwork (I am not a CT resident, so the rifle had to be sent to my FFL) - a transaction I term short & smooth over all.

It allowed me to purchase a seriously-undervalued ca.1914 Savage Model 1899 for chump change, including the additional $25 shipping fee.



BTW: I too, would like to know/see real (not a raised/bogus price for the discount "sale") pre-discount prices, when making a selection of whatever happens to be floating my boat at the time.

As a regular retail customer I can help you "know about that." Even while the gun market was the weakest I was never able to pay off a lay away and get out Cabela's door in under an hour. Often after arriving with currency and IDs in hand it took two hours. I have never been delayed by the back ground check and gun selection is not included in that time. About a year ago after being annoyed by Cabelas I timed how long it took to complete lay-ways at three smaller gun stores. Using my dash board clock from the time I turned off the ignition key to turning it back on ran from 14 to 18 minutes. Compare that to Cabela's one to two hours after arriving upstairs at the gun counter.

Admitting the market was in a buying panic during my last lay away pick up at Cabelas, they made me wait three hours just tell me they were too busy processing new sales to complete a lay-away. That necessitated another long drive and long wait to give them currency. The same week I stopped in a small store for a cup of free coffee and a look around. They were processing pistol purchases in the usual amount of time by having more than the usual number of clerks at work.

Things seem to have gotten off track. I just came back from Cabelas. 1st as soon as I got there I asked a guy in the front how much the discounts were. He said up to 25%. But he couldn't tell me specifically as he said it varied by manufacturer. I went back to ammo and got lucky. They had SOME 22 LR ammo. The guy putting it out couldn't tell me how much the discount was either, and said the same it depends on the manufacturer. Here's how it came out on the two things I bought
Bucket of Bullets Remington 1400 Rds $89.99 regular Sale price $76.49 15%
Box of 223 ammo UMC 200 round also $89.99 regular Sale price $69.99 22%

First off seeing as how I haven't found a regular priced bucket of 22LR ammo literally in MONTHS I was happy with it.

The other thing is they want you to bring your "coupon" that has a number on it for the Employee Discount Sale. Apparently not everyone get's these and they aren't announcing it, and have other flyers out for other sale items. Weird.

That truely sucketh :shock: - It'd be a cold day in hell before I crossed that store's doorstep again, if I were you. (muy simpatico)

No. The biggest thing was they could tell me the max amount being 25%. Otherwise they said it depended on the manufacturer. I also thought it was interesting they seemed to have another ad going on at the same time, and if people didn't ask about the employee sale, they weren't told, so I'm not sure what to make of that. Very limited advertising.
