Brand new Mini 14 in .222??

Not on Ruger's website as an available caliber. Any ideas? Weird font on receiver markings. New barrel profile.

I had one of these in the ninties, very handy if you like paying premium prices for ammo or live somewhere that does not allow civilians to posses weapons chambered in military calibers. I did not know they still made these but I am watching this one just because.. Cool post.

Hopefully someone here knows the real story behind these .222 mini's

I have a all weather Hawkeye in 222 Remington and a Carpenter Gun in 222 Remington and would love to get one of the Mini 14s but I am concerned I would not be satisfied with the accuracy of this gun.

I suspect that these were originally for export--as mentioned above, many countries don't allow their civilians to own rifles in military calibers. The .222 ctg. is very much alive and well in Europe and elsewhere because of this silly regulation (no slight intended to the "Triple Deuce," it is an excellent cartridge; I have 2.).
