Cotton brushes, I just dose them heavily with Breakfree CLP and squeeze them out a couple of times.
Wire, I spray CLP and let that just that wash off the brushes.

Depending on how you use them, you never NEED to clean a brush. However, if you use a bore brush with any solvent that attacks copper you will want to rinse off the brush or solvent will eat the bristles and they will break off...

I use solvent on patches, let sit and patch dry. I only use bore brushes with cleaners that do not attack copper fouling, ed's-red pretty much exclusively.
