New to post but not to Rugers...
Just a heads up and to give you a little insite regarding reblueing issues on my Rugger 44Mag. Carbine (early edition).
My carbine was purchased used and noteably had wear along one side of the barrel and receiver (possibly resulted from a scabbard or ???. Anywho, I decided to strip it down and have it professionally reblued by a local gunsmith. The only thing I failed to remove was the Cartridge Guide Plate that was secured to the receiver via two screws.
Not giving it a second thought the barrel and slide assembly along with the mag tube went in.
When I picked up the parts several days later, the gunsmith said he found two screws in his tank from my parts and showed me where they came from...top of receiver. He thought they had been just sitting there since non of his books showed the receiver being tapped for these screws.
After some discussion, he did find an early Ruger schematic on this carbine that showed the screws and Cartridge Guide Plate assembly.
Well, I got upset and quirried him as to what he did with my part and he inturn got upset and said he did not do anything with it.
I took my parts, charged out the door feeling that I was taken for a ride, and started looking for a replacement.
I found a unfinished plate through "Numrich Arms" and ordered it.
Long story short, my neighbor happened to come over while I was fussing and fumeing and informed me that some of the original parts may have been made of (pot metal) and could have been disolved by the salts in the tank.
Well, I believe this to be the case, contacted the gunsmith and apologized, letting him know what I found out.
