BKH30 Type 4 Value ??????

Now that I am out of the closet and participating in this forum, I have a question for the braintrust. In the discussion of foolish bidding and values, the price of $5800 and $6,000 were tossed out there. At this point that is the gun that I most desire for my collection. Is this what I can expect to have to pay??? Thanks for your input. Tom

Well, I guess we'll see, won't we?

That was kinda the point of my initial post: does the $3000 result of that auction represent a new price level for those guns, or was it an aberration fueled by the "auction syndrome"?

And how does that apply to truly pristine examples of the same gun, ie, a three-digit .357 flattie?

I guess you'll find out ,if they are willing to step forward and EVEN think about offering one up for sale now,,,,I KNOW most all of these guys would have LOVED to have been the seller, on a so-so condition 3 digit,,,,so imagine what some thing that IS rare or scarce or better yet in really nice shape?????? I KNOW what I sold ALL of our 10 inch guns for ( and yes, even as recently as two weeks ago....) and I KNOW what I sold any and ALL of the 10 inch boxes that we had.....................and so what,, I was happy, it was a win -win for ALL involved............ :wink:

With your example of a Type 4 BKH30, guns like that are far and few between with their boxes, and quality condition. They sold for that amount because they were what the buyer wanted and they would be tough to improve upon. But whenever guns come up like that, it is like trying to price something like the Mona Lisa. What will it bring the next time it is sold? You never know until the buyer lays down the cash.

I remember being asked by the owner of the only existing 15" .44 flattop how come I never had that gun listed in my annual price guide. My answer was simple...it would purely be subjective to price something that is unique to the collecting world. And if I listed a price of $15K on it (what the 1980's owner once said he'd sell it for in the 1980's), the next owner fo that gun would not have been happy with that value at all....especially after that gun was sold for a lot more than that.
It is worth whatever it will bring to the buyer who wants it the worst.

Neither of those sold at auction; FWIW, if listed, at the time, they may well have sold for more........... 8)
