This nest is a couple miles from our house ,on the way to the lake. This pair has two offspring but I could only get a picture of one of them. Suprising how black the newbie is. Just a few hundred feet away was the mate, watching me take pictures.Hope you enjoy.

As a matter of interest, I located an eagle's nest on the levee of the Mississippi River near Reelfoot Lake in November of 1993. I've monitored it over the years as it has been reused several times. A storm blew the nest down several years ago, but the eagles rebuilt in a nearby tree.

The park rangers there tell me that while the bald eagle mates for life, they often split up during the winter. One male has been observed wintering at Reelfoot, while his "spouse" winters at Sardis Lake in Mississippi, then get back together in Minnesota each spring. Can't verify this myself, but its what I was told.

Here in Oregon we have a boat load of them show up just before lambing season. It like pulling into a fishing port in Alaska. HA!

OK, I'll tell my friend's eagle story. He was guiding a boat full of touristas on the Snake River through Jackson's Hole. He was discussing the birds and specifically the Bald Eagle when one flew over and, uh, splattered his head with Eagle sh__ !
