I don't know what to think about this, other than WTH?

The elderly and disabled are being ‘put up for auction’ by local councils on ‘eBay-style’ websites, with care firms then bidding to offer them a bed.

At least a dozen local authorities are listing vulnerable people’s details – including their age and what care and medication they need – before inviting bids from care homes in the area.

The bidding is sometimes open for only a few hours, at other times it can last for two or three days. The cheapest offer often wins.

I've heard that in France, once you reach a certain age, they stop spending money for your medical care. I guess they figure you've lived long enough.

Sounds like the election process in this country with offices being bought and paid for and voters votes really not meaning a thing.

That's coming here, too. The sooner you die, the sooner they can stop paying your Social Security and pension, if you get one. Also, the sooner you die, the sooner you stop voting Republican.

To a certain extent that practice goes on in Bulgaria as well. Older people do not get the fast response of an ambulance or emergency room space a younger person may get.

But I can't see what the problem is with having the "auction" like described above. They are probably people without families on govt care anyway. It isn't like private information is being spread to just anyone. Only the other homes where they people may be transferred would have access to the information.

It really makes sense if you think about it. One home might have space or the specialist to deal with a particular medical issue one person has. They can move the people to the best facility for them.
