Are curved tv's any better

I track electronics sales in my area - salespeople are pretty un-interested in them. The market remains the dated-concept of "man-cave" buyers. The over-40 men who need approval from their peers and watch sports with 6-8 others. Not many family-oriented demographics buying them.
More expensive, harder to fix, same fragility and higher return rates than flat-screens costing much less. But those who spend the money are generally happy from FTF feedback at the retailers.
With the costs of 55"+ FS TVs falling rapidly, I say its your money (the HWP says its not of course) so spend wisely. Search Consumer Reports for more detail.

Years ago we went back home and visited a old aunt and uncle. Uncle Frank was telling us he wanted one of those new flat screens but was going to wait a couple years until the price come down. Aunt Liz popped off, Frank, your 92. How long are ya planning on living?

Are all the speakers in the new tv's designed to be total crap intentionally? I swear, even the lousy, throw-away speakers of the late 70s are better than this garbage.

Good thing I've got a decent system my brother built me in the 90s.

They had 50" flat screens at the WalMart today for $268. Not bad for a basic flat screen...

I did a little experimenting viewing a couple of curved screen TVs at Best Buy here. I'm slowly getting into the market for a 4k smart TV to replace my 8 year old so so 55" Sony. The curved screen will give a better viewing angle for use in a wide shallow front room. For a more rectangular room with the TV at the narrow end or in a squarish front room I don't think you'd notice the difference. One thing I didn't like about the curved screen is that it sticks out from the wall more on the ends. I have mine mounted close to the wall and like it better that way.
Prices sure have dropped, I'm thinking of a 65" 4k smart TV with 3d for when the grandkids are here. Prices for such are much less than I paid for my Sony in 2008. I think this is going to be a Christmas present to me and the wife from us to us.

I bought a Sony 65" 4K UHD 3D Smart-TV about a month ago as an early Christmas present for our house. Everybody loves it, particularly my very techie 21-year-old son. The tech guys say the new tri-luminescence Sony screens present more gradients of colors because of the larger numbers of pixels, IIRC. The color saturation is pretty good, FWIW. Personally, I think the picture on my 8-year-old Panasonic 50" plasma screen is a bit sharper and clearer than the new Sony, particularly for live sports and action movies. I hung the Panasonic on the wall in my den...just waiting for the DirecTV guy to show up and connect it to the satellite system

We considered a curved TV for about 2.37 seconds...none of us liked it. The TV guy at Best Buy said it was probably not going to catch on, considering the feedback he was getting from customers. It didn't seem like a good deal price-wise to me, plus the aesthetics of a curved screen were a bit off-putting.

They kept trying to push an add-on powered speaker system on me when I bought her a 60" TV. I finally asked the guy why I would want that garbage when I have a MAC1900 and a pair of Klipsch speakers I am going to use with it. He had no clue what either of those were.

I know they try and sell the extra sound bars and speaker systems with the new flat screens, but for Pete's sake, the tv speakers don't handle any bass at all... and it's not just that they don't play the sound; there's no crossover to keep the frequencies out of the garbage speakers so the bass comes in and bottoms out, giving a distorted squawk.

Pathetic.
