I have a mount I am working on that disassembles that will be ready in two weeks. Other option is to build some sort of wood stand. I use both on targets I shoot at home.

My portable wooden stands. Top slips into legs then just screw them together.

Permanent stand.

Do rifle bullets make holes in them ? I've heard some say they won't some say they will.

3/8th AR500 steel, free hanging, with a slight tilt away from the bullet path... you just want impact speed to be less than 2900-2950 fps. Which puts M193 "probably OK" out of a 16" barrel at 100 yards. 20" barrel... probably a little too close. Don't use ammo with steel penetrators and put them out at 150 yards, you can shoot at them forever. If they are "free hanging" and "slightly tilted... probably down... but just not square to impact."

Correct. But bullet weight and speed is a factor. .223 or .556 over 3000FPS does more to steel than larger rounds at high velocities. The small .22 bullet traveling 3000 FPS generates a lot of heat on impact and that is what creates a small divot in the metal. We have shot with .338 lapua at 90 yds and just knocked the paint off. Used a .50 at 200 yards put ding in metal.

.223 around 3000 FPS at about 40 yds.

.556 at around 3200 FPS at same distance. Notice more divots in metal.

.338 lapua 90 yds.

.50 at 400 and 200 yards.
