I've thinking about getting a Kindle. Mainly for reading email and surfing maybe some games. I've never played around with one. Any opinions? Probably the 16GB HD 6.

I have the basic Kindle Touch and am very pleased with it. I have about 100 books on it, many loaded for free. Just finished Grant's autobiography which, being out of copyright, cost exactly nothing. I take it on trips, etc because it takes up so little space. I can download books anywhere there's Wi-Fi. Handy little bugger.

I love my Kindle Fire HDX (Wi-fi only). Blazing fast, tremendous photo quality. Pretty decent array of apps. I'm happy with my 7 inch, but I wish I would have gotten the larger unit with the forward-facing camera. My camera is pretty much limited to selfies with the one-sided camera. I don't do selfies. I must also must say I've read far more since I owned the Kindle than all the rest of my life. I even have Grant Cunninghams "Book of the Revolver" and "Standard Catalog of Ruger Firearms".

Go on Amazon and review the different products. See which best fits your needs. There are more choices now than I had. Then, by all means, get one. It's not going to be a fullblown I-pad or Samsung tablet, but for the money it's very nice.

I saw this today as I strolled through Cabela's this afternoon, (and actually didn't buy anything  ).

Just thought it was interesting that Wildgame is getting into the tablet sales. I have the Google Nexus 7, and like it a lot. My only complaint is that it does not have the front facing camera, so am also limited to taking selfies. I noticed that the Wildgame tablet has a slot for an SD card. That would be handy if you are using it as a card reader to look at trail cam pics. If you already have a smartphone, you will be well on your way to using the tablet.

I have one of the 1st. Gen. Kindle Fires. It's pretty nice. It does what I need it to. Browse the web, read books, and play some games.

The newer ones are better at watching movies, but that's something my other devices will easily accomplish.

We bought one last summer. It's nice, however, it does not have a camera, so apps like Skype are out. It's fast and good for watching movies. It's not required but almost a necessity to have an amazon prime account. Just for the free movies, music and books. It uses it's own sort of internet browser so it is a little different than say a regular tablet from Samsung or and I-pad. They are nice and the screen resolution can't be beat. The only thing I miss is the camera and microphone. Sound quality is very nice.

We have a hard case for ours which protects it well. This one:
A little expensive for just some plastic but it is well worth it, especially if you have little kids around. And the pink makes it easy to spot around the house.

EDIT to add: I just saw the Amazon web site. They now have cameras. Someone at Amazon read my mind....

I also think however, for just a little bit more get the 7inch. I think you might appreciate the slightly larger screen, and it isn't much more than dinner in a restaurant.

Convenient, inexpensive and more than adequate for surfing the web. As an Amazon Prime customer, I use my Fire to watch free movies and original series that are offered (like "Alpha House"). I agree with the comment that this is not as powerful or versatile as an Apple I-pad, but is less than half the price. The lack of a forward facing camera, as others have noted, is a major shortfall. I've done a fair amount of travel and have noticed a lot of people using the I-pad or the I-pad mini as their "go to" gadget for everything since it can serve as a tablet, camera and e-reader whereas the Kindle Fire cannot replace your camera. While there are a lot of apps from the Play Store, there are not as many as available with an I-pad. That said, I find the Fire a great little gadget and certainly good enough that I don't plan on spending $400+ for an I-pad. If I didn't already own the Fire, I would probably buy an I-pad so that I would have the camera and be able to use this tablet for Facetime phone calls.

I have a phone or camera for pics, old, basic Kindle for reading.

FWIW, lots of free books for it. BookBub.com is where I look normally. A little while back I was looking for a couple to add in preparation for a trip, got 10-11 books. All were free but 1, it cost me .99......

My Mom had an early model Kindle for email, web surfing, etc and loved it until her eyesight deteriorated enough she could not see it well enough to read. It connected easily to the in house wifi.

The day I graduated college it was clear that I never wanted to see another book. Many years later took me to offshore Caspian Sea where we had no TV or internet. My wife bought a Kindle for me and I sorted a few books out to read. It was good. When I left the assignment I gave the Kindle to my wife along with a stick that a mate in Oz loaded with 10,000 books. She is happy and so am I.
