Yes this is an “R”. There seems to always be exceptions to the Ruger rules, but the non prefix M77’s were all made in 1968 and early 69 and were “R”s (3189 accepted total number non prefix fixed rifles made). I have one made in July 1969 and shipped in 1972….. way late to the game.

I have a prefixed flatbolt RS in .308, I think i dated it to 1970, as I recall. It's my favorite hunting rifle.
