7mm International - update

I finally got my 7mm International Rimmed to the range and was pleased with its performance:

The load was 18.5 of SR 4759 and a 162 gr Hornady Match.

Accuracy was outstanding. These two 5-shot groups were bench-rested at 50 yards.

I'll be moving out to 100 yards next time.

Excellent!!! You might remember Jim Rock of RPM(Merrill single shot pistols), he chambered several cals, including 7mm, based on a necked up 225W in his guns. I had one in 30 cal which could perform similarly to your 7mm. I also used SR4759 powder, combined with Sierra's 168 Match bullet, was a slam dunk on the 50#+ steel rams. fun stuff

I remember those rounds well. Jim created the 7mm and 30 Merrills on 225 hulls. Then there was the Rocket series using the same brass (20-cal, 6mm, 25, and 270). I can't remember if Jim designed the Rockets too but Merrill chambers them all.

The larger bore Rockets (358 & 375) were on 444's.

Jim,s guns only used rimmed cases thus the use of 225w. And so far as I know He came up with the Rockets.
when I first met Jim he was shooting 256 Win in his Merrill. Havent seen Mr Rock in 30 yrs but I still have 2 of his early model guns...they are still shooting good. I have both Herrett cals and a 375 Winchester and they all shoot good. Chief aka Maxx Load

how does that compare to the 7-30 waters?

It's very close to the Waters in terms of case capacity. It has a sharper shoulder and less taper, but a longer neck. In fact it retains the 30-30 neck. I've shot both and most find the International to be a bit more accurate.
