44 conversions on Old Models

I picked up an OM inended for a conversion and it seems smiths prefer the 44 special to the magnum, yet folks go right ahead and load these conversions to nearly magnum ballistics (Well actually somewhere between at around 1,200 f/s with 240's).
I was wondering if maybe the 44 mag conversions aren't done just because perhaps the COL with mag brass is too long for the OM 357 cylinder, since it appears that there is no real need too adhear to the low 13,000CUP limit of the Special?

RUGER blew up some 357 BLACKHAWKS re-chambered to 44 MAGNUM back when the big 44 cartridge came into being. They developed the 44 FLAT TOP and then the SUPER BLACKHAWK...and discontinued the 44 FLAT TOP a bit later.

If some common sense is used...and good accepted reloading procedures are followed!...you can load a 44 SPECIAL, in the appropriate gun, pretty d*** hot. You also noticed that the correct over all length with magnum brass and the KEITH boolit especially is too long for the converted cylinder...what an interesting coincidence! Liability law suits are a fact of life...RUGER and most custom gunsmiths believe in "Cover your A**" for good reasons.

You want a light weight 44 Magnum, get out your wallet and start looking for a 44 FLAT TOP.

With Industry Standard Proof Loads. Ruger made the right decision and redesigned the revolver to be "safe" with .44 magnum ammunition.

Bowen has made a 5 shot .44 Mag on the medium frame, but it is limited by the length of the cartridges.

The 1200 FPS .44 Spc loads always get some major fires going in discussions. To each their own.
