Looking through Cabelas, Cheaper Than Dirt, Etc... it seems there is a force working against affordable .41 mag ammo, or ANY .41 ammo at all in most cases. I know many .41 fans are reloaders, but many are not including me. I would like to exercise my OM Blackhawk once in a while but don't want to pay over $1 for each pull of the trigger!!! What gives?

They are concentrating on satisfying the "big hitters".

Us .41 fans are way down on their priority list.

Even when available, the .41 selection is minimal.

Reloading is the answer.

:)

Yes, definitely reloading is way to go. I hadn't shot this caliber for a number of years so didn't have any brass/components. Even buying new brass I'm way ahead with the .41 mag.

My sticker shock is with my recently acquired .405 Winchester Ruger no. 1. New brass alone runs around $1 per and with the powder charge and bullet costs I'm not beating new factory cost by much - I sure hope that brass lasts through a number of cycles!

I think almost all centerfire ammo will be about $1 a round or more from now on. If you think it is a conspiracy to keep you from shooting you do need to reload. That'll show 'em!

Just to make you mad, I bought four bags of 100 pieces each at a guns show three weeks ago for $20 a bag. It was brand new Starline brass. Sometimes you get luck sometime you don't.

Nonavailability of ammo and reloading components was why I sold my .41 Mag many years ago. It was a nice gun and a neat cartridge; I was just tired of not being able to find any components for it.

I've never really had a problem finding components although there was a time where it was impossible to find true Keith bullets. But then AlGore invented the internet and all was right with the world again.

It does take a certain amount of dedication though.

I wouldn't even consider owning a 41 if I weren't a handloader.
But since i do load, I have 9 or 10 of 'em.

I was set up to load 41 Magnum before I ever owned one. I wanted a T/C Contender 10" bull barrel to fit my Contender and found all the reloading tools and components before I ever found the barrel. Then I found a '57 S&W and then a RNMBH. I've never put a jacketed bullet thru any of my 41s, I cast several different bullet weights and styles, sure is nice to be able to buy once fired 41 brass in the original box from shooters that don't load, I offer 5$ for a complete box and find that I'm never short.

I have thought the same thing. I do a lot of gunshows, went to two in different towns , just before the ammo shortage, picked up almost a thousand rounds factory loaded for about half Midway,s listed price at that time. Hit those gunshows you never know what you will find.

And that is what keeps me from buying one. I do reload but not that caliber. It seems silly to take advantage of a gret gun price and then spend $100 on dies, brass and bullets.

I just make hotter loads for my 44 Special. I still want a 41 though.

It's even cheaper if you order direct

If it's backordered it's generally not as long as they say

That's just the way it is. It's been like that since the day the 41 Mag was introduced. Nifty cartridge if ya like magnums. Lots of nice guns have been chambered for it. The cops even tried it for a brief period. Thing is though, it just never caught on enough to be anything other than a novelty for anyone except for gun collectors and die hard shooters.
In my 12 years of setting up at gun shows, I don't recall a single time that someone even asked for one.

That aint a slam against the cartridge....just explaining why the guns can be found cheap but the ammo has always been high.

So where does that put me? Have three 41 Mag revolvers, two Rugers (NMBH and FT) and a Smith 57. Just received my Bowen conversion of an OMBH to 41 Special and have dies (Hornaday New Dimension) and Starline brass. Half the fun of shooting is reloading. I'm ready!

Ya sounds like a die hard 41 shooter to me. Nothing at all wrong with that. .

All these comments are great.

But Ruger still makes TWO revolvers in 41 MAG and Smith makes more every year. I suspect (but don't know) that experienced shooters recognize this powerful cartridge and continue to buy it even if they have to reload.

I picked up one bag of Remington brass today at Bass Pro Shops. I have to agree that if I did not reload for my 3 Ruger 41 Mags I would never be able to shoot them. By the way they work great on whitetail deer. I have noticed that no one seems to have the Hornady xtp 210 gr bullets anymore. Luckly I stock piled them a few years ago when prices were better. Mostly I shoot lead and I have everything I need cast my own bullets for the 41's. I also trimmed up some brass and made 41 specials. They work great as a milder load for practice. I also have a Marlin 1894 rifle in 41 mag also, its a great shooter. All in all, its a great caliber.

Brass and bullets are components that you would have to buy anyway and are no more expensive than .44. Today I saw 2 sets of .41 mag dies used for $29.00 each.

Eureka! Found some .41 mag JHP at Cheaper Than Dirt for $26.49/50. Think I will order a couple boxes right away before the Governator oulaws mail order ammo in California. :D

I don't think it's silly at all. If you find a gun you like in a caliber you want, why is it silly? That's why we reload, right?

41 mags are great like all big bore ammo it's expensive. Luckly I bought 1000 cases of Starline brass a few years back for I think about a hundred bucks glad I did should be set for quite some time now. I've been getting bullets from M&P Cast Bullets a mom & pop operation out of Vermont last order was 35 bucks shipped for 500. At that price shoot em up. He can get 1500 in a flat rate shipper, our mail lady doesn't like it tho she pulls in the yard and honks the horn got to go out to her car and retrive them LOL ps
