I just ordered a new 77 in 375 Ruger and was wondering what powders your having good luck with. Looked in a couple manuals & I'm thinking Varget, H4350, H414, RL15, & RL-17. Bullets in the 260gr to 300gr.
Any in put would be great.

Just got back home with some RL-17,H4350,H4831sc & I have a 1/2 lb. of Varget to spare.
I have a Hornady & Nosler manual with data in it. Plus Hogdgon's data.
I'm sure I'll find something that works.

All though I can't find any published data for the RL-17.
But I did find some on an Alaska forum & he basically said it's about the same as H4350. And I looked at the burn rate chart & it is.
And his max load tested didn't show any signs of presure.

Guess I need glasses. Hornady's book has RL-17 data in it & so does Noslers.
I sent emails to Barnes & Speer with what powders I wanted to use, waiting to here back from them.

Loaded these with what I found.

Hornady 300gr. DGS, Barnes 300gr. TSX, Nosler Part. 260gr., Speer 270gr. BTSP, 308win. Barnes 165gr. TTSX.
Now just waiting for the rifle to get here. Should be in Saturday.

Very nice! What are you planning to hunt with the 375R? I was tempted to get one (as it was the only cal. available in a LH version) but I went with a Ruger No.1 Medium Sporter in 9.3x62. I am not a hunter and didn't want something too much for offhand or bench shooting, but I like the history of the old 9.3.
I can't wait to hear how it shoots for you.
Take care :D .

Here in Ohio probably Whistle Pigs. Lol
No I bought it because I've always wanted a big caliber rifle to play around with. I had some extra cash & well now I don't. For the time being my buddy's father has 70 acres where we shoot & hunt. We have a bench set up and we can shoot at steel plates out to 200yrds. So that's what I'm going to do for now with it. I have a big stack of old magazines & will probably do some bullet testing reviews.

I know it's an exspensive shooter. That's what those Speer's are for & I also ordered some 300gr. Sierra's. It still works out to about $.70 a bullet.

I'd like to try some of those in the spring time with just a T-shirt on  .

I know I feel like a little kid waiting for the gun to arrive.
From what I've read people say a 338 gives a harder kick & the 375 is more of a push. But I'm sure it's an awful big push. I've shot my buddy's 338 & he also has a #3 in 45-70 & I'm here to tell you the #3 kicks like a mule with full power 405's in it.

You're sure right about the 45-70! I had a Marlin 1895 that I used to shoot some hot 405gr. loads in and that thing was punishing, to say the least. That Marlin was way too light for such loads, especially from the bench! One day a guy was sighting in his 338 Win. Mag. and asked me and my brother to spot for him. Afterwards he asked us if we'd both do a three shot group to check the accuracy, as he didn't think he was the best shot. Neither of us had ever shot a 338 and were wondering about the recoil. When I fired it I couldn't believe it; it was way milder than my 45-70.
I'm curious to see how the 9.3x62 in the Ruger No.1 will kick from the bench. I do use a past recoil pad, so I think it will be very nice. Shouldn't be bad at all standing.
Can't wait to get it!!!!

I use RL17 in my 375 Ruger Guide Gun with 300gr. Hornady RN and 300gr. Nosler Partitions. Just got some Woodleigh 350gr, PP that I am going to try with R17 also.

My dad let me fire his M-70 Alaskan .338 a couple times when I was around 11 yrs old. Was in BC winter and I was bundled up pretty good. I don't remember being kicked all that much but I remember how manly I felt afterwards!

One thing for sure, the recoil wouldn't match the punishment my lightweight, padless 45/70 Handi Rifle dishes out with a stout heavy bullet load...

Good luck with the new toy amigo...Be a fine candidate for cast bullets too...

Thought I would've had it already but Buds must be a busy place nowadays. But it was shipped yesterday & my FFL should have it today.
And I'll have to check into what cast bullets are out there.

Well I finally picked the rifle up last night. My first impression is it's a slim good looking rifle. And it's a natural pointer. Ruger did a nice job with they're open sights on this rifle, perfect size and height. I've been thinking about what scope I'm gonna put on it, and I'm gonna still put one on but IMO those sights should be good out to 150 yards or even 200 yards. Ruger all so lists this rifle at 7.75lbs. but the ballance is perfect and to me it feels a lot lighter then that.
I won't get to shoot it until later today, can't wait.

700xtr I sent you a pm

Just got back from shooting and I must say it shoots pretty damn good. I was able to shoot at about 100yrds at a mound of dirt aiming at a spot in the snow. Well let's just say if it was alive it wouldn't be now.
I also shot it at a stack of magazines at about 35yrds. to try and collect some bullets. Pics below.
I only shot it 12 times and to me it doesn't kick too bad. After about the 7th or 8th shot I started to feel it. Now I'm sure bench shooting will take it's toll on my shoulder. And you can definitely tell the difference between a 300gr. & a 250gr.
The 1st bullet is the Barnes 300tsx (299.3grs.)
2nd bullet is the Barnes 270tsx (248.6grs.)
3rd bullet is the Barnes 250ttsx (247.3grs.)
4th bullet is the Nosler Partition 260gr. (175.4grs.)

I'm not sure why the 270tsx lost so much weight.
To be continued.
