I have a magazine mixed in with my 22/45 magazines that looks like the rest except it lacks anything to catch the mag in the mag well. It's smooth no little nubs stamped in or anything. Anybody know what it is ? Thanks.

It is an "old style 22/45", often called MkII 22/45, magazine. The little nub on top is for the magazine disconnect.

If the magazine body is completely smooth, without any locking bumps on either side, but the plastic bottom block is long for a 22/45, then it is a Mark II magazine metal body mounted onto that bottom block. The metal magazine bodies are externally identical dimensions. What sets them apart for the model is the locking bump mid-way down the right side for latching the magazine in the frame with the thumb button. All Mark III magazine's have this same feature in the side of the mag body because they use the same method of latching the mag.

I have a MKII 22/45 Competition Target Model with a Volquartsen accurizing kit and a bolt tune up kit. This mag will not seat in this pistol. Is it the accurizing kit ? There are no locking bumps, and the plastic base is identical to the others. The kits have been in for a long while. I can't be sure but I think I just took this magazine out of the box that was in my safe. Thank you for your responses.

A fellow I talked with at Ruger this afternoon told me that this plain mag is a MKII 22/45 mag. He gave me the part # but I was in the garage and had no means close at hand to record it. Apparently they changed something at sometime in the MKII 22/45 run and some take the plain one and some like mine have to have the locking bump. Thank you for your responses and advice.

Take a look at the magazines in this picture. They have the right kind of latching bumps and bottom blocks your magazines must have to work in any 22/45 frame. http://www.rugerforum.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=199555&p=1996377#p1996377
