There is a gunsmith in Stow, OH named Doug Stout who posts on Rimfire Central under the name KingHouse41225 and has an e-mail address [email protected] or phone 330-203-2350, He specializes in this conversion and did my 22/45 MkII in 2011. The work included milling the frame, installing the bushings and modifying and fitting a pair of Herrett Coco Bolo grip panels I provided. The total cost was $45 and the workmanship was great. He will also do action work and install aftermarket action parts if you send them at the same time. He does not have a web site but send him an e-mail or call and ask for a current price.
The great thing about having this done is that you can send him the grip frame by plain US mail at low cost since the receiver is the serial numbered part and the grip frame is not regulated as a firearm.

According to the Brownell's web site, standard 1911 grip screw bushings have the following threads:
.236"-60 tpi exterior threads, .150"-50 tpi interior threads. Use 7⁄32" tap drill for bushing.
I don't think either of these taps are common items.

Doug did an awesome job on mine. I would highly recommend him to anyone. Work is perfect, and the cost is silly-cheap.

I believe Robar offered the same type of conversion (with options) back in the 90's...?
I would like this topic to be a reference item with gunsmith experiences listed. Smaller work like this gets smaller gunsmiths to be well-known and grows our sport and their businesses.

If the lynch mobs can hold off on making the noose for another week or two everyone who is waiting for anything from me will have their stuff. I am taking a few weeks off from everything in July, and have a couple of projects of my own that need to be completed before that. After July, I will probably be done with work on guns. I don't make anything from doing it, and for every word of praise I get 50 threats and insults.
There is no mail tomorrow, again, but I have some packages ready to go out. At least this one day it won't be my fault.
