noticed on newton's site that they list the #1 as having been produced in 3338 federal. Any body have any info as to configuration, time frame, numbers produced????????

Ruger showed a 1A I think at a Shot show years ago but never did a full production run AFAIK. They came out with a proprietary 338 Ruger cartridge soon afterward, and then abandoned it.

I had made my own made in 1B profile. It is my dim light, late in the day , go to gun. Always good for bang flops.

I thinks they were AB's; also think a few dozen were made just prior to Ruger's introduction of the .338 RCM. whenever that was. Have only had one and heard of a couple of others.

Thanks for the replies.....I find it interesting that Ruger's product history does not list the 338 federal as being produced in any model of rifle....so, would that indicate a special run for someone, like Lipsey's or another wholesaler?

Pretty much. Some sort of special order or another, or testing of the waters by Ruger, which is less likely

testing the waters by Ruger is what I'd heard. And with the one showing up at Ruger's NRA booth one year, that is probably pretty close.
