Well, ya put soda in a water cup and you’re a common thief.
Maybe lots of service workers and retail clerks on their last nerve considering the arrogance and disrespect of many patrons.

There. Maybe that’s the other side or “more” to the story. Ya never know.
 
Maybe that was the employees own broken window policy. It has to start somewhere. But I think the young man does not have the temperament to own a gun.

Let's put the soda and ice dispensers out in the dining area and tell the customers to help themselves to free refills. It's ok, we don't need anybody checking that straws and napkins are full and ice comes out, clean up spills, the customers can come and tell us when things are wrong. No problem. Then, in comes the person who requests water and suddenly an "unavailable" employee becomes available to go out and spy because you know they are after free soda. If you place free (refills) products in a public space and say "have at it", how do you expect to keep control over it? I often question the validity of the highly touted MBA degree.

Sure ….. minimum wage in New Jersey about $16 an hour ( around $600 for a 40 hour week ) and they supposed to sell you a $1.19 soft taco while paying somebody $600 a week?! Oh, and they’ll Rosie O'Donnell about the high food prices and lack of service too …smh.

No wonder they don’t offer table service or cater to your every need. This is squarely a political problem with the business and customers caught in the middle.

Government has no business mandating prices or wages. The market will resolve all that.

But there's more to the story.

Tax payers are providing corporate welfare when low wages result in workers qualifying for .Gov benefits - medical, dental, mortgage / rent assistance, daycare and so on.

Meanwhile, the .Corps are raking in profits, bonuses, etc.

Which is what capitalism is all about. You want more, work for it. If you're happy being paid a wage, so be it. Don't blame someone with ambition and greed for succeeding because you're too lazy to try.

Nothing worth shoot about. That being said, the different cups are how they keep track of soda sales. The water cup would make the soda inventory not match up to soda sales, and someone would be held accountable.

That doesn't really add up, because you can drink all the soda you want once you pay for the cup. What sense is there to buy a large soda if you are eating your meal inside the joint, because you can fill up your small cup as many times as you wish 🤷‍♂️

I get your point, but you completely missed what I am saying.
 
I’m not saying this is true, but picture this scenario.

Customer asks for a water cup. Then takes soda. An employee says hey thats for water.

Customer says F you and pulls a gun, employee defends himself.

Employee is justified in protecting himself, but the headline reads, “Worker shoots customer over glass of soda”.

While not a lie the headline is misleading.

Every headline and every story is misleading. Especially if guns are involved.

People STOLE the wine off the tables at the WHITE HOUSE CORRESPONDENTS DINNER DURING AN ASSASINATION ATTEMPT.

Just think about that a minute. At least 90% of the American public have ZERO honor or integrity. That is why they have to pay someone to monitor the thieves "ordering water".

Heard it explained last night. Those in attendance bought the bottles in advance. Some attendees chose to take the bottles they had paid for with them when they left.
 
My wife does not drink soft drinks. She will often ask for a cup in which she can get water. In most of the soda machines that I have seen, the water tab is on one of the dispensars for one of the sodas offered, usually something like Sprite. You have to hold the tab down a few seconds to clear the system of the soda before it is just water coming out. I think it is virtually impossible for anyone to tell what you are dispensing, i.e., water or soda unless they are carefully watching whether you are just pressing the cup against the soad tab or the small water tab.

Unless the water is on the Sprite dispenser and they are using the Coke dispenser.

Still in a world where Home Depot employees are told not to stop people shop lifting carts full of power tools. I doubt Taco Bell wants employees policing the soda fountain.

They don’t care if people steal because the liability of stopping it is too high. They just raise the prices. We all pay extra for soda because some people don’t pay.

Well, that's the way it worked at 7-11 back in the day. I don't do refills so I thought it would be the same. In 7-11's case offering free refills was a special, and they used slightly different cups during the promotion. So my mistake. Sorry. On the other hand, I wonder how they do costs and inventory for soda in that case. It costs THEM money that has to be reconciled to the business.
