After taking the shrink wrap of the boat I decided to take the scenic route home which just happens to take me by my LGS. While I was browsing the display case of used revolvers, the owner was putting a tag on a revolver that was going on consignment. It was a pristine 158 prefix Security Six 4" with perfect wood SileTarget grips with Ruger logo. it's got a red insert front sight which will help my old eyes. Tight as a drum marked $575. Settled on $550. Going to pay & do paperwork tomorrow. It fills a hole in my Six Series collection. Plus I'm 4 months into 2026 & haven't bought a revolver since last year. I'll post photos when I get it home. BTW, about what year did Ruger start with a scalloped recoil sheild? 158 prefix should be @1982 & surprised it's not scalloped.

Back in the mid-80's when many agencies were switching to semi-auto handguns, I was buying Sec 6's by the box full and reselling for 25-50% profit through my basement gun shop. At the time, I had no idea how popular the old Sec 6's would become.
I gave Dad a like new SS that Mom's middle Son stole after Dad died and have a customized SS that is loaned to my older Son plus two blued models that are basically 'beaters' but still quite serviceable. The Sec 6 is a solid, dependable, and strong revolver suitable for any purpose for which 357 is sufficient.
 
My buddy sold me his Security Six twice. He put millet sights on it. He’s not getting it back again.

I bought a used security six and gave it to my Dad for being my best man. He absolutely loved that gun. He bought the imitation ivory grips for it, and talked about having it engraved.

I have since inherited it back along with his other earthly possessions.

Here it is with his pipe. Neither has made any smoke since he used them last.

Got her home an hour ago and oiled her up as it was very clean but very dry. LGS included an old Bridgeport CT marked box of Remington SJHP nickle cased158gr 357s with 12 missing so I'm guessing the previous owner probably had it for home defense and didn't shoot it much. It feels like it never got broken in to me but I'll fix that pronto. Ended up $584 OTD which I think is fair.

I've had several blued/stainless Security Sixes during the decades---four and six inch barrels. I've kept only one, a four inch stainless. Looked thru my parts stash and found square-butt rubber grips with Ruger logo, a Millett white outline rear sight, and an old Hunter brand leather holster I bought at a gun show for $3. bucks... Located three speed loaders as well... So I've got a complete field ready set-up already...
BTW, I bought it in near-new condition for $300. bucks many years ago...
 
My Security Six is actually a Speed-Six wearing an original set of USPS Postal Inspector grips obtained from a very nice individual on the ROCS forum. Eventually I'll add the Security Six and PSS and have the trio. And if things fully work out one will be 4" and one 6" so I have all 3 primary barrel lengths. Mine was hard chromed and action work by Bob Cogan. Best looking Speed-Six in existence, if I do say so myself.

Woke up with the rheumatoid arthritis flaring up, fingers locking up and swollen so I switched from wood grips to Pach presentation grip for the range trip. It felt soooo much better. I stuck a 12# Wolff mainspring in before I left. I oiled and dry fired a few dozen times to work it in last night. Shot 150 158gr Xtreme RNFP 38spl over 4.3grains HP-38 using CCI & Winn spp. Nice deep dents in primers with both. Sights need adjustment, had to aim >3inches high at 25ft. Very pleased with it.

Noticed the cylinder turn line was wide so looked at the cylinder lock someone bubba-ed. Any idea what he was trying to accomplish? Looks like he stoned or filed. Can see it on frame.
