Questions on Security Six

I have some questions on a new to me 1976 blued lowback Security Six.

I have seen videos on removing the trigger pack, but wonder how difficult changing a trigger is. My daughter likes the smooth faced trigger on my Police Service Six. I see smooth faced triggers and stainless trigger packs for sale.

Second this Security Six has a small pin that sits between the grips, neither of my later Security or Service six has this? What is it for?

What is the serial number of the "1976" Security Six? I ask because the low back frames were discontinued in 1974 when Ruger converted to the high back frame. With the S/N the date it was produced can be determined.

That said, any smooth face Security Six, Police Service Six or Speed Six trigger will fit. You remove the trigger assembly, push out the pin that holds the trigger and trigger spring in place and then replace the trigger with one of your choice and reverse the disassembly process. The hardest part will probably be putting the trigger spring in place.

I see both the complete trigger assembly and a trigger available, which would be the easier replacement 🤔

To remove the mainspring. Cock hammer, insert pin in hole below mainspring, remove mainspring and part it is on as an assembly.
 
OK so I got a new smooth trigger assembly and began the operation of replacing it. Taking the gun apart was pretty straight forward. Despite the idea that parts are compatible the new trigger assembly wouldn't snap tightly in place and inspection showed very slight differences in the front lip and small items... so ultimately this plan failed.

So I took apart the smooth trigger and the grooved trigger and swapped those parts. The one plunger and spring is a bear 🐻 to get in place...and even the videos I watched they had trouble. Eventually all snapped back in place and functions.

So my 1974 low back Security Six has a smooth faced trigger.

So I got a complete blued smooth trigger assembly for 31 dollars shipped from ebay. Vs brand new smooth triggers from gun broker. They were 39 shipped. So the cost was similar but I couldn't get the new trigger assembly to snap in place without a gap. So ended up swapping the triggers. Ugh now I wished I had just bought the trigger. But I now have some spare parts...

And by gum the trigger spring was a demon 😈 🙃 also had some issues getting the cylinder and it's plunger block thingy to mesh.
