10/22 carbine 22 LR

It's a Chief AJ 10/22. Some here collect them. The stock has been changed but the barrel marking looks like a Chief AJ piece. It's marked 1 of 22 so I am sure someone will know which model it is

You might find out who the stock maker was if you look under the butt plate or inside the fore end. Beautiful work, by whoever did it.

When looking up the serial number, 248-64,,, it skips?in 1997-1998.
Is this normal?
Looking thru the other collections certain serial numbers show no results.
Luckily we have a catalog of what he felt was important, as a do not touch gun

As noted,, a "Chief AJ" gun. Do a little research into guns he built, and you will find a ton of info.
As for the serial number look-up. Were you looking at the Ruger web site?
There,, they list the first number for that year,, and then the first number for the next year. It often confuses people thinking that Ruger skipped something.
Our best reference is the Red Eagle News Exchange Guide.
It shows a serial number range.
In 1998,, they went from 247-34572 to 249-06698. So your gun was a 1998 made gun.

Is there a serial number I’m missing inside the revolver? I was taught never to open, cock or dry shoot?

The serial number is only on the frame. the number shown,, 16610 was made in 1964. It's an "Old Model" 3-screw type, and desirable to many. (Once again, the RENE Guide!)
Properly handled,, you can open cock the hammer to 1/2 cock,, open the loading gate, and rotate the cylinder. If you were to be loading it,, once you open the loading gate,, you insert (1) round, skip (1) chamber, the load (4) rounds. THEN (this is important,) close the gate & fully cock the hammer. This allows the empty chamber to be under the firing pin, AND prevents the dreaded "turn line" on a cylinder. Lowering the hammer from the 1/2 cock position causes the turn line.

ROCS (Ruger Owners & Collectors Society) is a membership, and does have a BOD. Which one did you join?
It's HIGHLY recommended to be part of both. The RENE is a quarterly newsletter published by Chad Hiddleson,, (chet15 here) that many of us try & help him with his STUNNINGLY comprehensive amount of knowledge published about Rugers.
ROCS, is a membership club, with a website, and a lot of great guys who do display shows, offer advice, and in general promote Ruger collecting.
But the one thing I see is your willingness to LEARN about Rugers. So,, if you ever have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!
