.44 Special flat top in front, .357 Blackhawk in back. Both 4 5/8”. My favorite length for carrying and handling.
.45 Blackhawk Convertible. 5 1/2”. It will get the same grip frame/hammer/trigger treatment as the two above. I had intended to purchase another flat top in .45 but the ability to use any load in this one sold me. Plus I already have a SS New Vaquero that fills that spot.

That's a Turnbull C/C job - it cost $200 when I had that gun worked over by John Gallagher 10+ years ago. I checked Turnbull's website recently and that same work is now almost $700. A

A 5.5" 454 Redhawk comes with me on woods walks.
My latest m29, a -10. Traded a late 3-screw 357 for it. Hooked on them mustang grips, but snagged a set of polymer to try out; see how much thicker they are at the web than them fackery slim-slabs. Had a sbh that got bubba'd down to about 4-1/2" with a hacksaw, so i hand-filed it down flat and straight. Great fun, and my nephew loved it. Sold it between jobs cos i dont stack krugerrands, but i got this for now.

Ehhh, I have one of those, it's quite the weight on a belt, think I'd try my hand at a... what do they call their 5 shot 44 Mag? Model 69? This is my "Lew Horton" 29. I have the finger groove combats put away, these are better for shooting, though I suppose they were for "concealed carry" like maybe an ankle rig?

A pair of 44 magnum Vaqueros in 4 3/4 and a pair of 5.5's. A S & W 27 with 3.5 inch and a S & W 29 with a 3 inch barrel.
Never got around to a 5x45 charter arms air marshall, but theres always those arguments about for the same weight and bulk you can have 6x357. Thats why the 45acp is so popular; its even slimmer and starts at a count of 5+1. Ya pays ya money and ya takes ya choices. Most of us cant easily conceal carry a bigbore revolver. Even eastwood-as-callahan only wore the ribside rig when the scene required it be seen.

I have large hands and the standard grip frame on the short barrel Super Blackhawk revolvers is too small for me.
The longer Dragoon style is much better in length for me, but that square backed trigger guard smacks my middle finger knuckle.
I end up having my pinkie finger off of the grip, and underneath. Not great for grip consistency.
However, the Super Blackhawk Hunter grip frame is perfect for my hand size.
This one got a gently used factory Hunter grip frame fitted. I purchased the used Hunter grip frame here in the forum classifieds and installed it myself.
This .44 Magnum Super Blackhawk 4-5/8" is my constant companion during rifle deer hunting season in a leather Alaskan Guide chest holster.
I tried a Kydex chest holster previously and found it to be much too noisy.
Late this past winter, I was cleaning this revolver in my kitchen, and fumble fingered it and dropped it on the ceramic tile floor.
As you can see, the front sight blade was damaged. I replaced it with the fiber optic front sight blade available at the Ruger web store.
I never really liked the black steel front sight blade for deer hunting during daybreak & dusk.
The two most magical hours in your deer hunting day with poor lighting, and you have a black front sight blade.
This fiber optic blade should be a large improvement during daybreak/dusk hours.

I’ve got the Super Hunter grip frames on both my New Vaqueros and on a Single Six. But… Ronnie Wells is making me a Super Blackhawk Grip frame that’s .300 longer and has a Bisley trigger guard. Now that should be interesting. And comfortable.

Actually had this fella out to the range today Blackhawk 357/9mm. One thing for sure, 357 is easy to shoot out of this heavy gun. (although I have not yet shot anything above common range ammo). Also not hard to be accurate. Mild shooter.

The Alaskan is quite nice (44RM in my case), but clearly not as accurate as a longer barrel. The epitome of a defensive weapon.
Amen to that!
My hands have shorter chunky fingers and the pinkie is uncomfortably off the bottom of most grip styles except for the Dragoon (I like this one on my .357 but much less so on magnums) and the Bisley gripframe which work better for me. So all of my Rugers have one of these gripframes.

I dig this 44 alotI myself, greatly prefer short barrels anymore. My current go-to .44 Magnum is this old originally 6.5" Flattop #6000, found on Gunbroker, and purchased BIN for a song. It had endured much use, came with some of the most RIDICULOUS, and poorly made, oversized grips I've ever seen...and also unfortunately, had suffered the indignity of being converted...
I wasted no time in the procurement, and fitment of original action parts, proper original period grips. (The old one's became firewood!) Then pulled the barrel, cut and recrowned it to 4-5/8" on my lathe. And, silver soldered on a newly fabricated, on my milling machine, front sight.
WHY?..Ruger never offered this barrel length for decades, is a total and complete mystery to me?!
They're as "handy as a pocket on a shirt." As Grandpa used to say...

Love shorter barrel revolvers. I have a 3" Birds Head and 3" Plow Handle Original Vaquero, 3' New Vaquero all in 45Colt, and a 3" Wiley Clapp GP and 2" SP. Redhawk in 45Colt is 4"

Before Ruger started making short 44 Mags in the 90’s, you had to make your own. My SBH cut down in the 80’s
Unfortunately as you get older Keith loads in short 44 Mags gets quite brutal
