We made the target today. The 1/4" plate is great for .22lr, as was expected. The 7.62 by 39 punched right through it. We welded 1/2" plate behind that and all good, although it still makes a nice dimple. I think I'll stick with the .22 for the most part.

So we don't know what type of steel; unfortunately in the lab where I work we don't have the ability to do OES material verification, we send that stuff out and it costs too much for this. BUT...today I'm taking off early and taking the Mini up to the cabin and testing it out for myself. Then...

In your experience, can a round from a Mini 30 punch through a 1/2" steel plate? I'm pretty sure it can go through a 1/4", but a 1/2"? Thanks

Turns out the rounds weren't seated fully back in the mag. Didn't know I needed to 'pack' em down first. Thanks for all the suggestions. Good info here.

The mag was as in there as it can get. I will try inserting mag with bolt back. Also, the ammo was Brown Bear. Doubt that makes a difference for this issue. Thanks!

I haven't oiled it yet. As for the slide, was letting it slam forward. I'm giving the gun a good cleaning tonight and hope to be able to shoot it again soon.

You're right, as far as I know. I don't think the rbd is dragunov styled stock, I was just wondering if anyone had any experience shooting the thing. I think the RBD just had a regular sporting type stock.
