    Ruger Return

I called Ruger to fix my canted barrel, they sent a shipping label via UPS pickup at my door. I have sheets of return address labels, and I stuck one to the revolver over the factory grips across the backstrap, one on each side of the factory case, and one inside the case. It was returned 3...

    My 44 Bisley Flattop fixed!

I called Ruger about my 44 Sp. Bisley Flattop from the first run years ago having a canted barrel, and they sent a pickup on March 29. It was returned today, 3 weeks turnaround, and it is fixed! Enclosed was a 15 yd target with 5 rounds centered. Fast, friendly customer service and I could...

    45 lc all around load

My 2 bits....my 3.5" SA with factory grips grinds the hide off'n my hand after 20 rounds or so with 8 gr of Unique under the 250-ish Keith. That is a boom'n load and would likely pass through 2 miscreants and keep going to the third. Who needs more? But I gotta get some smooth Elk grips!

Cast Bullets & the Scout Rifle

This problem has been encountered elsewhere. Use a wide-tip permanent marker to black out your lead boolet AND case neck, then try to chamber. One of two things will happen - you will notice that the fat nose of a bore-riding boolit will be engaging the rifling before the round is fully...

    GSR - Can't Close Bolt

The Scout is a "controlled feed" and dropping a round into the chamber without the extractor grabbing it will place the extractor behind, not over the rim. This will prevent closing the bolt. You want the cartridge to be picked up by the bolt in a way that allows it to ride under and into the...

    Scout Rifle

Yup, boolit profile. The Ruger has a very short throat, kinda like the K31. If the boolit does not taper sharply it will not chamber at spec length. If you were to switch to more of a Spitzer, sharply-tapered profile you may find that COAL will be greater. It's the obvious conclusion that...

    Scout Rifle

Kenneth, If your cartridge case truly impinges into the throat and rifling, that is a separate issue from the bullet diameter. What I noted in mine was that my bore-rider cast boolits that shoot 1 MOA in my 03A3s will not chamber in my Scout. I too was puzzled until I seated a jacketed 150-gr...

    Scout Rifle

I had the same trouble with cast boolits in my Scout. Lee 309-180R and Lyman 311334, as well as the RCBS 180 SIL will not allow chambering. Switching to jacked 150 gr bullets solved the problem. I'm told that 311299s will work, it must be in the ogive. The Scout appears to have little to no...

Found a GSR - Great rifle..

I picked my GSR last week, found one while trolling a gunshop. My wife was with me that day, and when I walked up to her she said "Don't you want to buy that? Get it!" What a gal...! I installed an old Bushnell 2x6 IER handgun scope from an previous Mosin scout project and it works OK until...

Lipsey's 44 Bisley FT rear sight gripe

Thanks for the encouragement and advice, all. I will give Ruger a call and report the outcome. Maybe the trigger pull will wind up like my FT 45, which is really great! Mike aka Pentz

Lipsey's 44 Bisley FT rear sight gripe

Finally found my NIB 44 Bisley FT after a long search and it took some doing for the sight-in. Out of the box it shot 8" high and 6" left at 20 yards. It is now dialed in, but the rear sight blade and adjustment screw are skewed far enough to the right to be irksome. I wonder if Ruger would...

Gunblast article on the 45 Flattop...

So what is the load limit on these? The Gunblast article suggests standard pressure...".the 45 Flattop can take full-power 45 Colt ammunition. It is not built for the 45 Magnum class of ammo". To my eye this means the same loads as USFAs and Colts.
