Well I went ahead and bought that rifle. I checked the stock and it had not been cut. It's in good original shape except for that replacement recoil pad which is nice, just not original. Where would I look for an original pad that would fit this Flatbolt? Thanks...

Thank you all for responding. The stock appeared to be factory length, but I did not measure it. I think I'll go back and do that. Can you guys tell me what the factory length is from trigger to end of wood?

jmfc606...thanks for the quick reply. That pad job really kills the value that much? Couldn't it be brought back to original appearance by installing the correct red pad? If I could buy it I would hunt with it, but I do take good care of my rifles in the field. Just thought it would be a good...

I found one M77RS (iron sights) .30-06 Flatbolt in great shape. Someone put a different recoil pad on it but they did a nice job and did not cut the stock. They want $600 for it. I offered less and they said no as it's only been on the rack 2 weeks. Serial number 70-22xxx. Metal/blue looks new...

I stopped by that Pawn Shop again today. The No 1 I originally asked you all about is still there. The shop manager offered it to me for $650.00 plus tax would make it $689.00 out the door. Is that a fair price?

Are these #1V's an accurate rifle? All my other rifles are "hunting accurate" meaning 1"-1-1/2" at 100 yards, but I'd like to own at least one real "tack driver". This gun was made in 1978. Was that a good era for #1 construction?
