    Yep, about the same price as the Python today. It was not my favorite revolver by any means, but we used to shoot it across the border from the Peoples Republic of Maryland, but I guess Virginia is becoming that too. Sad.

    I have a little over 4,000 rounds with GP's using red dots and it's a game changer for me. Like I have new eyes and once you learn to switch from sight focus to target focus speeds up your shooting. Spent Saturday morning run between two targets at 10 yards.

    Remember the Average yearly income in 1955 for men was 3400 dollars, so that was as much at one cost now or maybe a little more.

    It's long gone he sold it in the late 90's before he died. He purchased the Python first year they came out which I believe was 1955 and I think it cost him 98.00 dollars then.

    My dad had a new 1955 Python, but I liked my GP 100's more too. Never owned a S&W.

    I purchased Rugers because they were cheaper in price, never owned a S&W, so don't know anything about them.
