Gentlemen...and Ladies too, If you want to really kill your assailant instantly and not have a round keep going through them into the person across the room or on the other side of a wall...especially if you miss your first shot and hit a wall, then you might want to consider Extreme Shock...

Reality check...I have a 3" .38 sp101...I bought this gun to carry right after I got my NC CCW permit. Since I'm a good shot and only wanted to use .38 ammo anyway because of the lower recoil, plus the secure knowledge that if I ever had to shoot an assailant, they'd wouldn't be more than 5 feet...
