    Gov target MKII

Thanks contender, sounds like good advice. All of my Rugers shoot better than I can, the Comp target though is the pick of the bunch. I definitely don’t have a “need”, just a “want” and might have an opportunity to import one mid year. Will have to see how things pan out.

    Gov target MKII

So….. Looking at buying a Mark II Government target. I already own 3 MkII’s, 5 1/2 Bull barrel target, 10 inch bull barrel target and a competition target, as well as a MkIII hunter and a Paclite modified MkIII. I guess my question is, were any better than others. I noticed most aren’t reciever...

    Dovetail dot mounts.

Looking to mount a Burris FF3 or Vortex Venom on my MKII comp target on a rear site dovetail mount. Looking for any feedback, but particularly any long term users of this mount type. Anyone had any bad experience? I had someone suggest that over time it would work loose in the dovetail, didn’t...

    77/44 accuracy at 100 yards.

Ok. So had another try with this rifle and was much happier with the results. I took a lot of what was said and really thought about how hard the gun was recoiling. Decided to shoot in the prone position off of a bipod instead of off a bench rest. The big difference being that I was able to get...

Not what I was hoping to hear, but appreciate the feedback. Hoping to have another try this week, with a few variations on my attempt from last time and a few brands of ammunition. I’ll be sure to allow time for things to cool off between magazines.

Ruger MKII Competition Shoots Way Above Its Price

Having owned a few MkII’s and III’s for the last few years, I’ve always wanted a Government target, but they are not available here in Australia. I’ve thought about importing one, but that becomes a very expensive exercise. So…… I’ve finally bought myself a lightly used MKII Competition target...

    Ruger mark II target value?

Completely agree. To the original poster, if I was buying abother 5 1/2 bull barrel MK II, I’d try and get one that was drilled and tapped for a rail. Mine isn’t, and as much as I love shooting open sights, my ageing eyes don’t work like they used to.

Or in other words, I guess more trigger time working out what the gun likes and how to get the best out of it 👍 I think I was expecting the gun to behave on the bench like my much heavier 223 and 308, I’ll spend some trigger time on different technique and see what I come up with.

Luchenbach, the more I think about what you have said, the more I believe you are right. I think I need to look harder at my technique and that shooting well set up rifles has made me somewhat lazy. This guy has some great insight, not saying a muzzle brake is the cure, but certainly muzzle...

I have a few boxes of those, I might give them a try. Plus I’ll try and get a different brand of ammo to the American Eagle I was trying. Got a feeling I’ll find a simple fix if I persevere.

    77/44 accuracy at 100 yards.

Thanks Luchanbach, I will definitely try that next time and see where it shoots. It is a concept I’ve often wondered about in the past but have always been told it isn’t a thing, that was with 308’s and the likes. Certainly the idea that the slower bullet has not left the barrel yet makes some...

    77/44 accuracy at 100 yards.

Geez. I hope that it isn’t as good as it gets. I’ll spend some time floating the barrel and making sure everything is right. And I’ll try some different ammo, plus I am planning to load for it myself but sourcing powder at the moment is difficult. The groups were quite evenly spread, although...

    77/44 accuracy at 100 yards.

Fair call. I was using 240gr jacketed American Eagle, shooting off of a bench rest with rear bag. i am not a great shooter by any stretch, but using the same set up with my 223 I can make clover leaf type holes at 100 yards. also, I have a 2-7 VX2 Leupold on top. Wayno, I had read that...

    77/44 accuracy at 100 yards.

Hi guys. curious as to what sort of accuracy people are getting out of their 77/44’s. I’m getting about 3 inches at 50 yards, very unimpressed. If I got that at 100 I’d still be disappointed but would accept it. 3 inches at 50 is pretty woeful though. Am I simply expecting to much from this...
