The Thrill is Gone.....

I think I might be done with the chase. Nothing is "grabbing" my attention anymore. Not sure if it is just winter (no-winter) blahs, or if I just have too much going on, but I don't have any "grail guns" to search for anymore. Some of the recent acquisitions for my collection are:

1 - US Marked Ruger Mark 1, shipped in September 1956

2. Ruger 1911 Night Watchman Commander

3. Ruger Red Label (II), 12 ga. 28" Barrels

4. Ruger No.1 in .223

5. Two Ruger American Rimfire Targets, 1 in .22Mag and 1 in .17HMR

6. My two PRC hunting rifles. A Ruger American Gen II in 6.5 PRC and a FTW Hunter in 7mm PRC

I have way more guns than I can realistically shoot in a given year, but that has been the case for a couple of years now. Maybe I have just "checked all of my boxes", but the "thrill of the chase" has definitely waned....

I go through phases. I'm hot on the trail for a while, then I take a break. Right now, I'm on a break.

Me being on a break last as long as it takes for me to see something that I might like. If I go a week, that's a long time for me. Lol
Considering I get emails daily from distributors and auctions.

I think all of us here can relate. Sometimes less is more. After all, can’t take it with us. A purge to distill the collection can clear the mind for new frontiers or change in direction. Sometimes I review my inventory and note the guns I’ve sold and wonder why I let them go, but it forces me to derive more enjoyment from the ones I do have.

I have two BOOMERANG GUNS.
Guns that I have sold and then bought back.

I only have one on my list now.
It’s not overly expensive or uncommon.
I just have to find it at the store that I have accumulated points at.

It's now lived here since 2010...And, I'm currently contemplating selling it to the same friend that I sold it to, and bought it back from twice before! ...

There is always "one more" in the desire category,, but as you fill in a hole,, your desires can wane a bit.
For a collector,, it can be as simple as finding one in better condition than the one you have. Or it can be trying to find a consecutive numbered one to one you already have.
Or a minor variation of the same model. Etc, etc, etc.
But for a person who just shoots stuff, and wants to enjoy just shooting,, it's easy to reach a "slowing down" point.
I just hope I never totally feel like I've found all I'd like to own!

Other than the duplicates mentioned above...... This is kind of where I feel I might be at.....

Saying that though.... I do still want a No. 1 in .308 and an M1A National Match......

I would not mind a blued and walnut Mini-30, a 20 gauge Red Label, and a walnut 10/22.

You need a U.S. Mark II to go with the Mark I. I to went into a slump as I collected Mark II pistols. Pretty much got one to three of all but a few of the variations made. So I just got to where I would only buy NIB models or a deal I couldn't pass up. But I always liked to shoot custom guns so I started collecting custom Mark .22s Clarks, Volquartsen MKIIs, got a few Giles, a Belhert. Now I'm looking for what I call the old masters. The guys who built in the 1950s - $1980s before you could buy a factory custom gun off of the shelf. Two of my favorites. A hard chromed Jim Clark and an early Volquartsen with a 10" barrel.

I find myself in the same place as OP. I don't know what I want...what I want to chase.
My personality is that when I hit on something I want, I end up burning myself out because I'm so focused on that "thing". I'm currently feeling burnt out.

Nice collection. I might have used that Ruger Mark I on the pistol range at Ft. Rucker when I was on the Marksmanship Detachment.

Definately peak of my collecting days was goin to Tulsa. Monday eve open up the Tote and there be 4-6 NIB Om's and 3-5 yellow/green bx Puma's. Those were good days!!

I’m in a similar place. Out of habit I still look, if nothing else it keeps me up on prices.

Sort of like walking around in the woods during deer season after you already used your tag! .

It often seems I have more knives than guns. RMEF sure does like to send them out every other month....

Even if you stop buying guns, the fun doesn’t end. Some need tweaks or accessories, holsters speed loaders etc. Last week I finally put sling attachments on a shotgun I bought in the early 90’s.
