Let's have a minute of silence, to honor Bill Ruger's pal, the (late) Bill Lett - who, once upon a time, supplied Ruger's grips.

Im a self proclaimed unrepentant sambar junky but I'm waiting to see how this...

Turns into this....

I just don't see it happening, but I'm hoping I'm wrong it'll save me a good bit on grips. Any updates from the op?

I still would like to see this. Hope I'm not the only taker.

I'm sure it could be ugly, but you never know until you try. Could look great. Let's see some magic!!

Okay. The OP baited us, then abandoned us.

So for small inquiring minds such as mine, the only way to visualize the final product was to do it myself.

It is so disgusting, I cannot bring myself to applying the treatment to the second grip.

One side's already got it, might as well do the other.

Then buff it down and oil it. I want to see...

Sorry. Too late. Already removed as much of the coating as I could. Just trying to see what it looked like, I used a wax-based shoe polish that was fairly easily removed, except for the checkered area that is not protected by the lacquer on the original finish. So...Looks like I've got a bit of a white tint accenting the fleur-de-lis.

WAYNO.
