What is a good cutting oil

Hi, what would be a good cutting oil for using on cutting steel?I am going to recrown a barrel, using a hand turned 12 flute cutter, The directions call for using a good oil, what do think would work the best? I am looking for some thing that i can find at a local hardware store, or lowes ?Thanks.

JamesLoren, What is the best? Well there are many that will get the job done as mentioned above. As a gunsmith, I use 6 different cutting oils depending on the job at hand. Do-Drill, Relton A-9 (aluminum), Tap Magic Extra Thick, Cool Tool, Hercules Dark Cutting Oil and Ridgid Dark Thread Cutting Oil. For cutting a crown, I use either the Hercules or the Ridgid. They keep down chattering marks even using hand tools!.................Dick :wink:

I've had great results with Do-Drill but I'm sure the others are good...
