There are lots of bears, lions and wolves where I live. I make a habit of clanging metal objects when I step outside, wild animals are outside their comfort zone with such unfamiliar noises. I urinate in a couple spots repeatedly, best locations are under the roof of a dirt floor barn or lean to where rain won't wash it away. Predators almost always circle downwind and use their sense of smell, so send them a message they won't like.
No one wants to holster up every time he goes to the barn or garden or step outside to grab something out of his truck. I keep a 44 special snubby handy and slip it in the back pocket of my jeans every time I step outside.
When I step outside, my dog does the same. First thing she does is sniff and look around. I pay close attention to her body language.

The leftists in the socialist state of Washington made cougar hunting with hounds illegal about 20-25 years ago. Said it was in humane.
Even with their population increase, it's taken that long for the cats to kill all the deer in the mountains, now they are down here looking to eat.
Still quite a bit of mangey, inbred lowland deer for them to hunt, but as the video shows, they are hunters of most anything. It will happen eventually, someone will get attacked.

There was a bounty on them for a reason.
The pic is of my Grandpa in 1930, in his best Standard Oil uniform.
Getting your picture taken back then was a big deal, you dressed up.
And yes, he used hounds on all his cat hunts.
