Anyone here ever need to hand fit a Six Series hammer to allow it function in single action? I bought two hammers from different sellers recently that wouldn't lock up in single action in a Service & Speed Six but did in a Security Six. I read a post from this forum in 2015 that detailed how Ruger armorers were taught to fit these hammers(if needed) when assembling new guns. It required lightly filing an area on the back of the hammer to allow more travel to the rear for single action cocking of the hammer. I tried it and sure enough it worked although I need to file just a bit more.

I took a bobbed hammer from a 158 prefix Speed Six and put it in a 159, SA won't engage.
Even though I only use it DAO I would be interested in the link.

If the bobbed hammer was a factory DAO it wasn't meant to function single action. Different story if someone modified a DA/SA hammer by removing the spur. Factory DAO hammers had checkering on the top of the hammer. I took a photo of the post & diagram I'll show here shortly. The arrow points to the flat face perpendicular to the hammer that needs to be filed if SA doesn't engage.
