What frames were used on OM SBHs? XR3? or something else.
How do you like shooting them? My friend had one in 44 magnum and now regrets selling it.The Old Model 3 screw Supers had what we call "The Dragoon"

You can see from the top picture of the Colt 1847 Walker where the name came from
The 1st 2nd and and I believe the 3rd Model Colt Dragoons (nope it was round) also had the square back trigger guard. The Ruger frame is the same size as the Colt.

1. No. Old Armys used only one grip frame, the XR3 RED size. The early blue guns had an alloy GF. Beginning 1985 it's marked XRN-3, is made of steel with wide trigger slot, and is the only old model GF in carbon steel other than the SBH. It's marked KXR-3 in stainless. To this day the Old Army grip frame has not changed and will fit any old model Ruger.OK... here is another question: I'm sure everyone knows but me--were any Old Armys made with XR3 frames and/or can XR3 frames be used on them?
