Many years ago, I believe that Numrich arms offered new 357 barrels and 44 mag barrels for Winchester 92's. The 357 for 25-20, and 32-30, and the 44 barrels for 38-40 and 44-40. It was a fairly common conversion and I saw quite a few come through the gun shop I worked in. I can't remember but I think that even though the 38 and 44-40 had a larger rim diameter than the 44 mag, the bolt face on the 92 still worked fine. I think there were a few issues with people trying to run max loads through the converted guns, especially with the 44 mag chambering. At the same time, Numrich also offered 444 Marlin and 45-70 barrels to convert Remington Rolling Blocks. I think those lasted into the 1980's.
