Moose, especially cows with young, are nothing to mess with. When I was stationed at Fort Greely, AK, we saw moose nearly every day. A cow moose can weigh 800 pounds, and will flat out mess up a vehicle! I once had to drive between a cow and her young on a back road, and I was afraid that she would attack my vehicle. Just like you don't pet the fluffy cows (bison) at Yellowstone, you don't mess with mama moose!

Folks learned to stay away and just watch. The moose loved munching on the green grass that was growing in early spring due to the underground steam lines.

My cpusin, an Air Force career man, and his wife were stationed at an AFB in Alaska, and living in married quarters. One night they were awakened by a terrific crash as if a vhicle had crashed into their house.

He got up to investigate, and getting some light saw a bull moose shaking its head, trying to get their clothesline untangled from his antlers.
