Just picked up a 77/22 mag at an auction for $400. It has a 3x9 Bushnell scope, factory sights and the ser# has it being made in 1997. It is in excellent condition.
Were these good shooters?

yes--good shooters. The only thing to keep an eye on is keeping that bore clean like a centerfire rifle. My groups begin to open up pretty good at around 30 shots or so--but upon cleaning the barrel they are right back to sub MOA. I like the ones with sights too! Stainless or blued?

I tend to think they do very well. I'd say to clean the heck out of it, go to
the range and have a ball. If you find the groups opening up, I'd use the
techniques you use for HP rifles (break-in process). Done properly it will
provide excellent results. :D

Nice piece! Wonderful rifles! One of Ruger's better offering. You need to try for the 22LR and 22H. Right off hand, I don't know if anything, within reason, that I would trade them for. Walnut and blue. Addictive man, I am telling you. And a good buy on your part, too!
