So I buy this Ruger 77 that has been set up with a 338-08 Ackley Improved barrel. The gun came with the dies to reload brass. But it is so close to the 338 federal. As I understand it the angle of the neck is off I believe the federal is like 40 degrees and the AI 60 degrees. Does anyone know the differences for sure?

An A.I. usually changes 2 things, the neck angle as noted & case taper. But since A.I.'s have no SAMMI standards, different reamer companies might grind with somewhat different dimensions. Nothing is for sure until measurements are taken.

So... a chamber cast of your chamber, a reamer drawing from the reamer that cut your chamber, or simply a fired case from your chamber will provide the answers.

Using 338 Federal cases seem to be the obvious way to start fire forming for your brass.
