I installed the Hogue Tamer Boot Grips on my LCR because they have hard sides and slip in and out of the pocket easier. I like the fit and feel of the original Tamer grips... I'd love to see them offered with hard sides.
They're both great guns. I have a Security Six and a SP101...I would regret selling either. Like the GP my Six is a great field gun. My SP101 DAO is a great carry gun. Regets will come down the road if I ever parted with either.
Bearcat may call them ugly but it's all in the eye of the beholder. I own 3...a LCR .357 a LCR .22WMR and a 3" LCRx .22WMR.
The .357 is my EDC and has by far the smoothest action. After a lot of use the WMR's are smoothing out and the pull lightening up.
Edit: Wanted to mention that I also own...
As I sit and watch TV in the evening I dry fire my LCR's at a wall outlet 10 feet away. I concentrate on staging and then finishing the shot. That requires me to smoothly pull until staged and fired. I pay attention to my front site and its relation to the outlet I'm aiming at. How much if any...
I bought a LCRx 3" in 22 mag... it's a 6 shot. It's the 3rd revolver that I have purchased in the LCR platform They're great shooters...this one being the most enjoyable.
I love shooting my SP101 .357 but the LCR's are a fun gun too.
I chose the .357 because it offered the heavier S/S frame so it will take a little more punishment and everything else I have is .357. I use it as my EDC. I currently load it with ARX ammo in .38SP...and soon to be ARX in .357.
After trying several combinations I settled on a 10# hammer spring and an 8# trigger spring. After a few hundred rounds with no missed strikes I'm comfortable with this combination. I think the right combination is subjective to the individual user.
They are extremely well made and very dependable. They don't have the fit and finish of some other manufacturers, but you can run over them with your car and pick 'em up a keep on shooting.
